bladder stone removal surgery If a male yorkie needs to have bladder stone removal surgery how long is the recovery period? How long will he need to wait before having the stitches removed? Do most vets uses stitches that need to be removed or that will dissolve on their own? Thanks |

Sutures are typically removed 10-14 days after surgery. The type of suture depends on the vet's preference and surgery type/location. |

bladder stone surgery - post condition?? My yorkie, had bladder stone surgery about 3 weeks ago. It was normal to have him pee a little blood for 3-4 days after surgery, which is expected. But what wasn't expected is the CONSTANT urination. He cannot hold a lick of pee in his bladder anymore. He pees in bed EVERY night. When we go to work, we come back to about 5-8 piles of pee on the ground (thank goodness we have tile). We have him wearing diapers which really don't work. And he even tries to pee when there's nothing in his bladder (nothing coming out). The vet said this is not normal at all. We took him back in and they took some urine tests to see if it's a UTI. Results are pending. What else should we do? We have some friends that recommended seeing other vets. Can another vet find a mistake in the surgery, and/or a misdiagnosis? If so, do we sue? I don't know how this all works. I just want him back to normal. |
My yorkie, Bucky, had bladder surgery July 1, 2013. He is peeing constantly. He is dribbling. This is an older post... what happened with your dog? Did he have a UTI? |
update on my yorkie he is back to normal now. the constant peeing went away about a week after my post. we had to put him on a special diet food, but he was allergic to it! so I placed him on an all natural diet, but I'm hoping the bladder stones don't come back. he was wearing the "cone of shame" for a good 2 weeks during his constant peeing. also, his pee was of a deluted bloody color, but became correct in color after a few days. hope this helps. vet did not find any infection btw. |
bladder stones Thank you so much for your quick reply. I contacted my vet... and will hope for a full recovery! |
My Yorkie is having the bladder surgery for stones the vet found tomorrow. I am a nervous wreck, of course. Only having had home for four weeks, it is hard to know what caused them, he reactions to pain,. We are just beginning to know him. I've made him post surgery tee shirts, bought a kong collar, made lots of flannel covers. Not sure if there is anything else I can do or get. gew |
Well, Spenser had his surgery on Tuesday and he eats his new food without hesitation. He has had bowel movements and urinates often. Just wonder how often this is normal. He goes out about four times each night and every two hours during the day. Does this sound right? Gew |
Hi, glad to hear your baby's surgery went well. My Toby had this surgery a little over a year ago and he did not want or like going outside to potty. The vet told me that he needed to drink lots of water to keep his bladder flushed and prevent further stones from forming. So I would think if he's going out often then that is good because he is keeping his bladder flushed. Praying for your baby for a full recovery. |
Yeah! Stitches are out and he is back (almost) to his schedule. However, now he goes out every two hours. He is great about not going inside at all. At night he now goes five hours. Not great, but he is so proud when he has no accidents. He loves the food. Our vetnperscribed Royal Canin Vet. Prescription SO formula. In fact we had to get a slow eat bowl so he doesn't choke. He runs like a nut, climbs stairs, and seems totally back to normal. It will be weeks before we get the results from the University of Minnesota. Still not sure what change it will make to know the kind of stones, but.... May be a change in food? Anyway, thanks so much for your good wishes. He's had quite an adventure for only being here seven weeks. Our sweet little old man....... Gew |
Glad to hear your sweet little old man is recuperating nicely! These little ones do recover fast. Well take care of him and yourself. |
