Best Pet Insurance Companies??? I can't figure it out. So many exclusions, different coverage amounts. Anyone know if one is better than the other...I've looked at ASPA, VPI or Purina. I'm interested in an illness coverage...for emergencies or large surgical procedures. Simple vet bills are not necessary to cover at this point. Thanks in advance. Belly's Mom |
I have PetPlan for Pfeiffer, and they've been just great. I've had it for almost a year now. |
ditto..I have Pet Plan, and have made one claim, and was very pleased... |
I just enrolled both dogs in Petfirst Healthcare. I liked the sounds of it because it has a genetic/hereditary waiver and also a routine coverage waiver. I just went with the basic plan...will let you know what I think. I just filed my first claim for Levi's annual check up and shots. |
DON'T GET VPI, IT'S TERRIBLE!! I have Petplan now too! |
Thanks to all I called around and the PetPlan offered good benefits...I like that the cost of procedure isn't their scale but the vets. They offer a 100% reimbursement and a three tier deductable. I chose the Gold Plan with $100 deductable and 100% reimbursement. They cover congenital, &chronic health issues for the life of your dog. My coverage is an annual 20K a year max. There is a 6 month exclusion for LP and Cruic something or another --unless you take your pet for an exam within 30 days and the vet checks and signs off that pup doesn't have any issues. They don't require xrays...just a cursory check. I am such a worry wart with the puppy I def need insurance. My vet says I have the record for middle of the night ER puppy visits. |
Does this insurance cover when you get your pet spayed? |
Would anyone already have a link to PetPlan? |

Dog Health Plan Options: Dog Health Care Plans to Suit Your Pet - Banfield These guys offer dentals as part of the plan, I am going to give them a call today and see if this plan is really worth it. |
Thank you for the link to PetPlan. Is Banfield insurance only good at the Banfield clinics (PetSmart)? |

IME, you do not save any money. In fact, you spend more. They just mark the price WAY up to show the amount saved. Their wellness plan is only good at Banfield. We had them for the first year. It was a big, fat, frustrating waste of money. For the girls to get spayed, they quoted $2200 PER dog. E-collar and pain meds extra  We now have Petplan. We have been very happy both times we've had to file claims. |
I have Trupanion. I pay $32.68/month and I have a zero deducticle... with 90% reimbursement. Have had it for almost 1-year now. It is just for illness & injury. |
I have also been checking into pet insurance. I was looking at the Trupanion site and also looked at the PetPlan. I can't seem to decide what would be best for us. I don't mind paying the routine stuff out of pocket if that means a lower monthly payment but I want something in place in case of emergencies or if a congential defect showed up later on. I know at the vet visit we went to, she said he was in great shape but ever since starting this forum I worry about things like liver shunt or knee issues that would mean immediate surgeries. I want to have something in place if the time ever came. |
I don't know which is the best but I know the VPI is the WORST!!! It was a waste of money when I had it for 2 years....it covered nothing!! |
