HELP me & my Puppy out =(
 

I went to the breeder were i got my puppy to put his shot. He is 15 weeks & weighs 18 oz. When they put the shot he screamed and cried like if he was dying!! then they put De-worming by mouth, he did not lick or swallow. then he squirt it all in & he had no other choice but to swallow it. The breeder told me to put him in his crate & let him rest till tomorrow. I massaged were they put the shot the whole way home, He was very sad:(. We got home i put him in his crate, & fed him, he ate, then he went too sleep, he woke up & started too play with his toys, I picked him up to give him a kiss & he started too scream like i was killing him:eek::(. I told my family & they told me to rub the spot, i did, he cried for awhile then he stopped. I put him back in the crate( he wanted to pee) then picked him up & he started to sceam again! We called the breeder, & he said maybe he hit a nerve with the shot:mad:. He said that in the next days he will be fine. But every time i stop rubbing him for a few seconds then i start again, he cry's:(. Do u guys have had this happen to u? what can i do to make him feel better? please help!:aimeeyork:(:confused::animal36:animal-pa

This happened to my friend's chihuahua. He was the biggest tiny baby ever. Sometimes dogs just get traumatized after things like that. He just moved to a new home, he's small, getting used to the sounds, new people, etc. He should stop after a week, if not I'd take him to a new vet to see if they did something wrong. More than likely it's just him being the little baby that he is! Remember puppies are like little kids! :D

Oh the poor little guy!!!!!!! How horrible for him.......and probably just as horrible for you too!! I hate seeing any of my fur kids suffer or be in pain. :( I have no advice, but just wanted to lend you my moral support if nothing else. (Although I would probably call the vet in the morning if he is still in pain.)

I would have all shots administed at the vet's office, not the breeders. Yes, there are reputable breeders who administer their own shots with their vet's blessings, but there are disreputable breeders who do this, do it wrong, and do it with vax that are expired (Uni's breeder). If you don't have the record from a vet when the shot was administered, when you take him to the vet for rabies or whatever, they will say the shots are void and they will make you get the shots again! Dangerous! Over vaccinating! esp for these little guys. :(

Also, the injection site may have a big lump develop over the next few days and can take a week or a few months for it to go away.

I just want him to be back to normal. and the worst thing is that tomorrow i need to work and wont be with him:(! ill see if i can leave early from work!:rolleyes:. don't even remind me of rabies:mad: they told me that in 2 week he will need Bordetella and Distemper, and i don't want to get them done. & then Rabies OMG don't know how i will survive seeing him cry like that:(. When he cry's i cry as well:(.

In my opinion at 18 oz he should NoT have been vaccinated & dewormed at the same time, that's too much on his tiny body all at once. In the future you should take him to see a vet for these things.

I agree, when they're that small one thing at a time is best. They shouldn't have shoved the dewormer down his throat after the shot bothered him so much. Totally not your falt though, he'll be ok in a few days, like someone else said he's probably just a little tramatized more than actually in pain. Maybe try rubbing that area while giving him a treat to re-focus him on something pleasant associated with being touched in that area. I dought it's beacues they did the shot "wrong" that's really difficult as long as they lifted the skin up and gave the shot under the skin (Sub q) My vet wanted to do Alice's second booster and Rabies on the same day and I requested that we come back in 2 weeks for the Rabies. It's ok to do more than one thing at a time when they are adults and for larger dogs but tennie tiny babies require more caution. Also, you don't need the bordetella vaccine (kennel cough) unless he will be going to a groomer or kennel for boarding.

Now that u and that other person said that, It makes a lot of sense. Next time i will definitely go to a vet! Also they said that he is so tiny that they want to give him an extra shot. What do u guys think?:animal36 Thankfully he is all better now! running and playing & no crying!!:D

Extra Shot :eek: What for ? Absolutely NOT.

They gave me the stickers of the bottle of the shot they put on him. One stickers says Distemper & the other sticker says canine Coronavirus Vaccine.

Is that the Only vacs he had ever ? & how old did you say he is ?

Princess was a good size as a pup but they still never gave her more than one shot at a time and i always had to wait about 3 weeks in between, the only exception was one shot and one nasal together. i just talked to my vet about bordetella (sp) and they said she only needs if going to the groomer, i just have to get it 3 days prior. he's so young i doubt he'll have to go anytime soon so i would just put that one off til needed.

He was born 12/13/10. In the papers he gave me it says that he got on the 1/20/11 Distemper, Adenovirus, Parainfluenza, & Parvovirus. on the 2/14/11 he got Distemper, Adenovirus, Parainfluenza, & Parvovirus. on the 2/28/11 Distemper, Adenovirus, Parainfluenza, Parvovirus, & Coronavirus. on the 3/28/11 he got Distemper, Adenovirus, Parainfluenza, Parvovirus, & Coronavirus. in 2 weeks he wants to redo Distemper, Adenovirus, Parainfluenza, Parvovirus, & Coronavirus plus Bordetella :(:confused::eek:

No more shots, he's already been over vaccinated. Have you had him to a vet yet ? if not you really need to take him for a health check & take the vaccination records with you so the vet can see what he's had & chart it. Also I do not recommend the bordatella through the nose as my dog developed chronic rhinitis from it and it comes in injectable form now. I also would not recommend you take him out in public until after his vet check and when you take him to the vet Do Not put him on the floor. Also his size has Nothing to do with how many vacs they get so giving extras will do nothing for him.

Fifteen weeks is a bit early to be stopping. Pain can be normal. Please have a licensed veterinarian examine your dog (today) and have them give all other vaccines. Going back to the breeder's for vaccines is not normal or okay. The exam is being skipped this way and the vaccines used may be questionable.

Being small is definatly not a reason to give extra vaccinations and no veterinarians practice this as far as I know, if anything it's more the opposite with tiny pups. I'd say he's probably had enough vaccines; at one point in the list I think you said they did 3 within 1 month's time frame? that's way too frequent. I'd tell them thanks for the help but you'll be going to your licenced veterinarian from now on. And as someone else said, make sure you take all the records of the vaccines and deworming to your vet. It's not about how much vaccine they are given, it's about building the resistence up in their system over a period of time, age and timing is what's important, not quantity. So glad to hear he's feeling better :)

Andy has this problem every time he has a needle , After the first time the vet had a benadryle needle to give him at the same time talk to your vet about this in the future. Also get some childrens bubble gum flavor benadryle call your vet and ask how much with his weight that he should get. Please do not rub the spot as it is very tender there when picking him up just be careful that's all. Love and effection movies with mom and and bully stick furbaby will be back on his feet in no time

The next day that i got the puppy i went to a vet! I obviously did no put him in the floor. i have had him for almost 3 weeks already. They were going to give him the bordetella with a shot. But i will most definitely go to a vet! So, can he go out side? the poor little guy is always inside. I maid a special collar and leash, that would fit him & he loves it. I walk with him inside my home. i carry him out to get some sun, but i want to know if its safe for him to walk. Thanks to every body!

Maybe in your yard if you are sure it has been parvo free for years (which is almost impossible to know for sure). Not in public - where other animals walk. Best to wait 1-2 weeks after the last DHPP vaccines (which shouldn't be given until at least 16 weeks).

I just want to let you know that you shouldn't walk your Yorkie on a collar. He needs a harness so that you don't put any pressure on his little neck.

I am so sorry to hear your sweet baby is having such painful reactions. I am glad you will be taking him to the vet. I just want to add please be careful with using collars. Collars should only be for id tags and fashion. When you walk the puppy you should use a harness. Yorkies especially the little ones can have their tracheas (throats) injured by collars so I learned always to use what they call a choke free harness. Until he is through his shots I would wait to walk him outside and if you are out avoid grassy areas where dogs frequent. Buster was sick when I first got him and I had to not let him out either. We practiced walking with his harness in my apartment too. When he was finally ok'd to go out side he wanted to run everywhere and sniff everything. It sounds like you are trying your best to be a good mom to your new furbaby. I wish you luck and I hope everything works out with the new vet. :) Just saw your other answer about you do have a harness I am glad.

I wish I could help you know more about how many shots. There are other members here who are more knowledgeable. Also check in the YT library section. I do know once he gets through the rounds of puppy shots you will only need shots once a year or every three years. I have a vet who only does the minimum required shots as I do not believe in over vaccinating them. I know it is so sad when they are in pain. Buster has had more than his full share of issues and it was hard on him and sometimes even harder on me because I worried about him so much. I am glad you looking out for your boy and I hope his puppy days are happy and pain free. Best wishes

Roxi has the same reaction when she gets her shots (she weighs 1.8 lbs now). The first time the vet gave her the shot, they gave her a little pain medicine by mouth. She also would cry if I picked her up and touched the injection site. But by the next day she was fine. Her next set of shots was the same...once again just a little pain medicine. She actually didn't cry at all during the injection, just once the medicine started stinging. I'm not saying that it doesn't hurt, but Roxi does seem to be a little bit of diva at the vet. She buries her head in my hair and than every once in awhile looks out and give the vet a dirty look. ;)
