Spay and pulled teeth??!! Hello everyone!! I am about to have both my girls spayed on May 11th... i've never owned a dog before i got my girls (Chloe and Melody)... i make sure they are as healthy as possible and i have pet insurance for both of them.... I am aware that Yorkies tend to have teeth problems, but why is everyone talking about having them spayed and pulling teeth at the same time... is this common?? why??? Dont want to sound stupid, but like i said, this is the 1st time i have dogs on my own... thanks! :idontknow |
The teeth that are pulled are usually baby teeth that didn't fall out. Rather than running the risk of them not falling out on their own and having to go under anesthesia a second time, most vets pull them during spay/neuter. The teeth have to come out to prevent problems with adult teeth and increased risk of tartar forming. It is very common. Make sure you have pre-op bloodwork done. Best wishes to your pups. |
Thanks!! i was scratching my head wondering about this!!!.... Yes i am havign pre-op blood test done... i am a little nervous but i pray my babies are gonna be fine! :) |
Yes, They will be fine. I am a veterinary technician, and yes we too do this for puppies if there baby teeth are still hanging in there. Its very common for this to happen in small breeds. And its very good you are having the bloodwork, that will make it all that much safer. Good luck to you and your girls :) |
