Question about coming off a bland diet Hi all, Well Harley's tummy is feeling better, and I'm getting ready to take him back off the bland diet, but I still have some chicken and rice left, I was thinking of adding some carrots.... I'm making a guess that carrots aren't too rich or anything and that this may be a good way to give him some extra nutrients and still use up the bland stuff. Thoughts? My idea was to cook and puree the carrots so that they'll get all over the rice so that he doesn't just eat the chicken. Also he's still on a bit of medication, we're going home this weekend, and I"m wondering if I should just for simplicity sake keep him on the bland diet for the entire weekend so that I don't risk him getting car sick. (he's not a car sick kind of dog, but this is how the whole thing started). Thanks. |
What was the diet for and what med is it? Usually if you start a bland diet and meds at the same time, you want to stop them at different times, so it symptoms start back up, you know which one helped. Yes, cooked carrots are fine. You can also mix dog food in with it slowly. |

The vet gave him oral metronidazole (I think I got that right). So I will most likely stop the meds before I go back to real food then. I thought about mixing kibble, but at this point I don't think he'd eat it yet, he enjoys his home cooked meals :D |
If it were me I would keep him on the bland diet until you return home, you never know how the meds and putting him back on his reg food will affect him on the car ride home. I doubt that he would mind getting the special treatment Than when you return home you could always mix a little of his reg. food in with the bland diet that he has been eating in order to do gradually introduce him back onto his reg,. food. |
