My puppy is not eating! HELP! Hi there, I'm new to this site. I just brought home a 14 week old yorkie, Gracie, 5 days ago, she weighs 2 lbs 7 oz and she has barely eaten a thing since she came home. She is full of energy and seems happy and content in our home. I am giving her nutrical several times per day because she is not eating. If I throw out a few pieces of kibble she will eat 4 or 5 little pieces sometimes, but that is it. I've tried to do what the breeder said he was doing which was putting a little bit of warm water on the food to soften it up, well with that she just laps up the warm water and doesn't even take a bite. I tried mixing her food with a little canned food to make it more enticing but still nothing. I'm worried she is not getting enough to eat to be healthy... Is this normal for a pup? By the way I am using the same food breeder had her on. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks |
I had a similar prob with Tiki at first, and what worked for us is giving her some finely diced boiled chicken (very hard to resist), sprinkled on top of her other food. Some people put some parmesan cheese on their food as the smell is supposed to attract them, or give a little cottage cheese. You have to be careful about giving Nutrical too often, as I've heard it can trigger a hypoglycemic attack if it is not warranted, and also it will make the pup less hungry. Keep it for emergency use, and try other foods first. Good luck, and welcome to Yorkie Talk. |
Hi. Welcome to Yorkie Talk! I have a 15 week old that weighs 2 lbs and I have been struggling with getting him to eat since he was 8 weeks old and I brought him home. I've tried every trick I can think of and tried every suggestion from here and other places. Some things work for a few days and then nothing again. LOL. Baby rice cereal mixed with chicken baby food. (likes this one a lot!) Boiled Chicken and brown rice with homemade chicken broth Scrambled egg sprinkled with parmesan cheese Lean scrambled hamburger We have tried Blue Buffalo hard puppy food, soft puppy food, Cesar puppy soft food, Royal Canin #28, and one other. I leave hard food out for Louie at all times but he doesn't eat it. I use the above people food when I know he needs some calories to keep his blood sugar up. Just keeping my fingers crossed that he grows out of it because I worry all of the time and it is a lot of work to keep making him things. LOL:) Good luck! |
