how to raise low cholesterol Hi, I'm new to the forum.. have a sweet little yorkie rescue called Mya... however in a routine annual physical everything is fine except her cholesterol is low... she is 2 1/2... anyone have any experience with this issue?,,,or what to do to raise cholesterol.. and trigycerides.. I know m ost people and dogs have the opposite situation.. thanks for any input |
I am not a educated very well in terms of dog's health concerning cholesterol, however I know that eggs are very good for dogs and have quite a bit of cholesterol. You can scramble eggs or make a fried egg and mix it with Mya's normal food. I believe it is the yoke that has most of the cholesterol, but again I am not certain. Good Luck! I'm glad your pup is very healthy otherwise!! |

I think the consensus (that I have read) is that eggs, cooked or raw, are very healthy for dogs. However, salmonella can be present in raw eggs, and I think that is what causes dogs to get sick. Similar to us when we bake, we shouldn't eat the dough or cake mix if there are eggs since they are not cooked yet and may contain salmonella. Cooked eggs should be totally fine and very nutritious. :) |
I'm not a nutrition expert, so I cannot say whether or not egg is the best way to raise good cholesterol. However, I do know that some people feed scrambled eggs. Fried eggs do not sound like a good idea. Did your vet suggest any diet changes or additions to solve the problem? I would do some more research and maybe consult a canine nutritionist for the best solution for your dog. (especially in regard to serving amounts) What does your dog currently eat? |
