clothing alternative to cone after spaying
 
Just had my puppy spayed and she's so tiny the cone looks so uncomfortable. Surely someone has come up with a clothing aternative that covers the stitches? Anyone know of a product to use? Oh, I have a soft bubble cone & the hard e-collar. I'd love an outfit instead. I bet good money could be made if someone created such a thing! I did buy the stretchy dog bandage and put a breathabe pad on the stitches but it gets rumpled and hard...not good. thanks in advance.

You can just buy an infant baby onesie from a store like Walmart. They are cheap and work great! :thumbup:

That is what we used for Rylie when she had her spay.

I second the Onsie recommendation. Just cut a little slit for her tail and you are good to go.

Well, I have soft fashionable cone collars available. ;) I am in MD so it wouldn't take too long to get to you. You can click on the second have of the link in my signature and it will take you to the thread about my Kiss-E Cone collars. I do have a tiny size as well.

When Maggie was spayed I used a preemie onesize on her-she was just under 4 lbs. The only problem with it was that she peed right thru it. lol.

One thing with anything on her belly/stitches, just make sure it doesn't rub against them as this can cause irritation or infection. Hope your baby feels better soon.

I have never had one come home with a cone. They seem to do fine without them. If she is tiny she might be too small for a onsie, but you can get the soft cones.

I soooo love the soft cone you made for my Pheebs last year! I got good use out of it and even was able to use it for my foster girl, Gracie (see avatar) after her spay last month. I only had to roll it down for her since she is 1/2 of Pheeb's chubby-chubs:p

Thanks for the info....I will do the onsie as she will only have the stitches in for a week more. Had I pre-planned I would have purchased the soft cone! I will keep it in mind should I need another in the future. You never know :( I'm going to buy a premie onsie and the newborn to size my little girl.

Just had to chime in and say I did the baby onesie thing too and It was a life saver.. Loved it! And they are super cute too!

My baby is getting spayed on Wednesday. If you put the short sleeve onesie on backward, it will snap just in front of the tail and there will be more room in the tummy area so it will not pull.

Instead of a plastic cone, I got a fabric one when one of mine had surgery. She could still not reach the stitches but was much more comfortable than the rigid plastic one. The emergency clinic had them but i am sure there are Vets that carry the. I don't like putting a clothing on them in summer especially right now with the heat wave we are having. House is AC but still pretty warm and clothing can also mat up the coat if there is much length to it.

My sister had her mini Aussie wear a medical pet shirt similar to a onesie after she was spayed. They would have to unbutton it so she could go potty. Only problem was, the puppy didn't like the shirt and started being defiant by wetting the shirt... :eek:

Dixie was spayed two weeks ago and she kept wiggling out of the Elizabethan Collar. She actually wiggled out while I was taking a shower and bit her blood catheter in two. So, off to the vet and Walmart for onsies to protect the stitches. Catheter out, onsies on; they worked very well! Dixie looked cute too!

I used a onesie and cut a hole from her tail down to the edge where the snaps are. The snaps made it stay put but it did not have to be removed for her to go to the bathroom. She couldn't get to the stitches and it also protected the incision from getting dirty.
