Im fat feed me more. I took my Rex to the vet yesterday to get his weight cheeked. They told me he was to fat . Asked how much i feed him when i said 1/2 a 150g pack a day i was told it was to little so he had no energy so was fat. They said i have to feed him three packs of 150g a day making a 450g a day to give him more energy to run about more to lose weight.??? Any one any idea how that's going to work and how do i make him eat that much.??? |

it took me a little experimenting to figure out the conversions for this. Trying to convert grams to a volume (like 1/4 or 1/2 cup is difficult because 1/2 cup of dog food is not the same as 1/2 cup of say coconut. So I did the easy conversion. I have a postal scale that changes from grams to ouces. I took a bowl and placed it on the scale and zero'd it. Then I added the amount of food I feed mine per day into the bowl. It read 75 grams, so if you are only feeding 1/2 a pack a day, that is 75 grams and he is getting what he needs to just substain his weight. I don't buy that he needs WAY more than the average amount to LOSE weight. Of course that is going to depend on how big he is. If he is a normal sized yorkie.. I don't see how that is going to work. If he was say a lab or other bigger dog, maybe that amount would work. I would ask the vet to explain further unless I am way off on my calculations. |

Sunnie your bang on it. Rex is a toy Yorkie .Always been a fussy eater now trying to make him eat his 75g .(normal daily amount) + another 5 more more lots of 75g a day to try make him eat a staggering 450g a day. He just cant eat it he wont even eat a hole 150g pack a day (wet food). I am really confused and am now really worried about trying to make him eat so much i think i may be looking for a new vet.. He is only 27cm from ground to top of front shoulder. |

27 cm is about 10 1/2 inches and is a very average size for a yorkie. how much does he weigh now?? I would be looking into another vet as well. Or at least go back to him or call him and explain your concerns and see if he maybe made a mistake. If not, then I would look for someone else. I see you are in the UK.. do they have animal nutritionists there? you can also ask your vet to refer you to one if he will. |

That makes no sense to me either. Maybe he just needs more exercise? What I really came to say is that your thread title makes me laugh every time I come across it on the forum. "Im fat feed me more" just strikes me as hilarious.:D |

Hi backwardsrain glad it makes you laugh. I have been to another branch of my vet and told then what my vet had said. They were not happy with them and gave me there phone number told me to go think about it then phone them and go see there nurse and get a free consultation with the nurse and talk it all out with them. then decide after that if i move branch or if i move vets all together. Also i am to put him back to the 75g a day like i was before. I was doing it right all along she didn't even think Rex is to fat. The only thing they suggest is that i feed him more in the morning and a little at night. |

It is always good to trust your instincts and get a second opinion. Generally, you know a lot more than you think as a parent when something feels "off." Keep us posted on little Rex!:) |
