10 month yorkie female acting strange
 
Hi there everyone. My little yorkie girl is normally very playful. For the past few days however, she has been very sleepy and rarely gets out of her crate. If she does, it's to go to the bathroom, eat, drink, bark a little, get a little love and then she goes right back to her crate. Normally she is running around for at least a few hours of the day, playing fetch, and just generally acting more cheerful. I don't know. She is eating quite a bit and drinking well, she will bark if she hears things, but other than that she has just been in her crate not playing with us at all. She did go into heat a few weeks ago but all of her heat symptoms are gone. I called the vet, but could only leave a message and have not heard back from them yet. Anyone else's dog go through periods of a lack of energy?

Doesn't sound normal at all.

How old is she?
Does she have a fever?
She needs to see the vet asap.

I have found that after a female has a heat cycle it does change their personality. She could be having a false pregnancy. Females go though hormonal changes after a heat cycle and their bodies act the same as if they were pregnant. Most of the time the personality change lasts about two months, the same length as a pregnancy, then they will become more playful and happy. Was this her first heat? Another concern would be if she has pyometra. Unless you plan on using her for breeding it would be best to have her spayed before her next heat cycle then you won't have to worry about the personality changes. Please keep us posted on how she is doing.

Has she been spayed ? if not she could be coming into heat, but I would take her to see your vet ASAP to make sure she's Ok.

I was thinking this girl was normal for a couple months after her heat and then became lethargic.

That was my first though. Extreme lethargy a couple months after a heat isn't something that can be taken lightly. I kinda wonder if it is a closed pyo.

Best to go get it checked out very quickly.

I agree she needs to be seen by a vet.

The op said she was in heat a few weeks ago so she is just out of heat. A more laid back personality is very normal after a heat cycle. The article below says that pyometra does not normally appear until about 8 weeks after the heat cycle. As always though, if in doubt see a vet.
