Chip and Smokey are getting dentals tomorrow!!! Chip and Smokey are getting their first dental cleaning tomorrow. I'm so nervous and I keep telling myself they'll be fine. They're running blood work tomorrow before they take them in to make sure they'll be fine in that way and from what it sounds like, the benefits of getting it done is better than the risks of anesthesia. I keep telling myself that to keep myself calm. Chip did fine under anesthesia when he got neutered, but Smokey was neutered before we got him so I don't know what to expect with him at all. Please keep them (and my sanity:rolleyes:) in your thoughts tomorrow. |
I'll be thinking of you guys!!! I'm sure they will pull through perfectly fine but I know how nerve wrecking it is. I cried after I dropped Jackson off for his neuter-lol. Good luck!!! |
Sending positive thoughts for Chip and Smokey. Tomorrow will be over before you know it and your babies will come home with fresh, clean, healthy teeth. :) |
LOL and hopefully better smelling breath! :D Thanks! |
I will keep good thoughts for them. When mine had theirs done it was a very quick procedure and they came home with such pretty smiles. |
I'll be keeping your gang in my thoughts. As proof, I will refrain from poking you on Facebook for 24 hours. ;) Starting tomorrow. :p Dentals are a good thing and you'll love their clean teeth and fresh breath |
Here is an update I posted on my first thread about my anxieties of dental cleanings. Chip and Smokey did well! Thanks everyone! I ended up getting their dentals done this past Saturday. They did good, but the vet's office gave me a heart attack early in the morning - they run the blood work no earlier than a day before the cleaning, so they just did it that morning. I had asked them before I left if they call to let me know the blood work is fine and she said "no news is good news". Well 2 hours later I get a phone call from the vet's office, so of course I answered and the woman says "It's about Chip..." my heart stopped because between the two dogs, Chip has had the most health issues. Smokey has had absolutely nothing wrong with him in the 3 years we've had him. She heard my panic I guess and was like "OH NO nothing critical!" He had to have a tooth extracted. She said it was loose and his roots were exposed. I hung up with them and cried. My poor baby was having a tooth pulled and he wasn't ever going to get another one. On the other hand I am SO relieved that we did the cleaning when we did, so they could catch that tooth issue when they did, before it caused any other, more severe problems. I'm of course thinking it was one of the larger teeth in the back so I went to the pet store and picked out an organic wet food for him to chomp on while his gums heal... I go to pick him up and the tooth was one of the itty bitty tiny ones in the very front! I still feel bad that he's missing a tooth, but I'm grateful that it's not one of the other teeth that really helps him chew and eat. Both of the dogs were so sleepy when I got them home. Smokey didn't even care about barking at any of the other dogs at the vet. They both were dragging me back to the car. They slept almost a full 24 hours without a peep from them, especially Smokey. Their teeth are pearly white and they've almost got their puppy breath back - not that I can smell very well with this sinus infection. |
Aww, poor Chip. Sorry he had to lose a tooth. Most fortuitous that you brought the kids in for dental cleanings so that the loose tooth would be discovered. Very happy for you that everything went well. :) (I'll ask you to hold my hand when it is my turn ;)) |
Glad the babies are doing well...Sorry about the loss of the tooth, and I know, exactly, how you feel...My beautiful little Apple knocked out a botton, front tiny adult tooth, when she was about 11 months old:(...I just tell her not to smile, in pictures lol...Seriously, the main thing is the kidz are fine, nice shiny, healthy teeth, and much more kissable breath :D |
The good thing about the tooth that he did lose - it was an adult tooth that had grown in crooked and scraggly anyways when he lost his puppy teeth, so it is such a tiny space, you hardly notice it unless you know to look for it. It was a shock to find out initially, but I rationalized with myself that it could have been SO much worse. |

I'll bet Chip will be feeling much more chipper without the sore tooth! Glad things turned out well. It was rough going a full day without poking you on FB, so it's nice that everything is back to normal :p |
