Took Mickey to Vet... He has Allergies :o( I'm so sad. Mickey has seasonal allergies. The vet gave him Chlorpheniramine 2mg 2 times a day for 14 days to see if it helps. She said how great it was that I got him in so soon. He only shows signs of licking the inside of his pads. POOR LITTLE GUY. She said if it gets worse we will send him to the Dematologist to find out exactly what he is allergic to. She does not think it is a food allergy. I am so sad. Anyone whose dog has allergies... How do you help them? Shampoo, meds, supplements...? Thanks |
This time of year is hard on mine as well, as she has environmental allergies, and the pollen count is starting to grow. We also did the Chlorpheniramine, twice a day. It worked when we used it. However, I started adjusting her diet to improve her GI health, which has helped immensely. Now she only has to take them once in a great while. What is Mickey currently eating? Did the vet mention any thought on food allergies? |
Poor Mickey! I have allergies myself so I know how annoying it is -- I'm sure with meds you will be able to keep it under control. :) |
She said she did not think it was food allergies because he is the right age for seasonal allergies to start showing up (1 1/2 yrs). He is licking his paws and will turn and start biting his hip like something bite him. They are not bad but I just noticed he was doing it so took him in. The tree pollen has been higher here the last 2 weeks and this is when it started going from occasional paw licking to "you notice it more" type licking. The meds seem to be helping. What dietary changes did you make? :) Brit-I have bad allergies too. Ever since I moved to MD-LOL Before that...none. |

My vet told me the same thing last year when Jackson was 1 1/2 years old and his eyes were really goopy. She said he was at the age that allergies started showing up but then I changed his food and the eye goop went away... so who knows! |
My Cali has allergies and we did all the blood allergy testing and nothing showed up. Vet said it could be anything as they can't test for everything in the environment etc.. The only thing that helped Cali was going on Atopica medicine. We tried everything else and this is what worked. Stopped all scracthing. I hope Mickey's allergies are mild. |
