Soooo Friday is the big day So I'm still new to the yorkie thing. I bought Silver from a byb not knowing any better and I hadn't done any research (shame on me) on yorkies when I bought her. She's healthy and growing with no problems but where I am still new to it all I have a few questions. Well she's getting fixed Friday. I've read that you all suggest if your doing puppy teeth extraction to go ahead and do it while they are getting spayed so you don't have to put them down more then once. So the vet is going to spay, pull her puppy teeth and microchip her. I'm scared because I dunno if it's to much at one time or not and I don't want to put her down more times then necessary. They are going to do her pre-op blood work and they said that they do it a few hrs before the spay. I'm a nervous wreck and scared to death for her but I know it's better for her in the long run. So any advice on not being so panicky would be great and I really need to know what all types of questions I should ask when we go in. Also if you all think it's to much at once. |
I don't think it's too much at once. When my dog had stomach surgery (for eating a piece of a plastic toy) he was neutered at the same time and he was fine. Good luck Friday!!!! Sending good thoughts! |
As long as the blood work is fine, then it should be ok. As for getting through the waiting, I suggest maybe keeping buisy, maybe shopping for some special presents for your baby. Something to make her comfy when she comes home. I'll keep you both in my thoughts on Friday. Let us know how things go. |
It doesn't sound like too much to me...As the other person said, as long as your baby has had all the pre-op blood work, and you have faith in your vet, you oughta be good to go...I know how you are feeling...I felt the same way w/my first yorkie, but a little more relaxed w/the 2nd one (Chorkie)...Having it all done, at one time, is definitely better than putting her under twice....Start another thread, Friday morning, and we'll all be thinking of you and sending up prayers and good thoughts for you and your little one...Prayer is so powerful, and there are a lot of praying Yorkie mamas on this site...I know they have always stood w/me and my little ones, in my times of need...You are, truly, a part of a great big wonderful Yorkie family :) maggie :wavey: apple:aimeeyork buzz:aimeeyork and Cha Cha:doghop: |

Ok more questions again, sorry xD So I've been reading some more and I've seen a few people say that their babies won't eat after being fixed and today my mom told me the day her chi got spayed she wouldn't eat either. So should I buy nutrical to be safe? Also I seen some of you say you gave them baby food so they would eat something, what kind of baby food? And one more thing...I know some of you use onsies instead of cones so how do you put them on your yorkie? Same way you do a baby? And what happens if they have to potty? Because Silver uses a puppy pad and just goes whenever, we don't watch her. |
I would do it all at the same time (or you will have to go back, which is what I had to do). Also, make sure they give you pain meds (just incase your dog needs it). Teddi was crying after her surgery on the way home and they didn't give me any pain meds so I went back and got some. |
We didn't do a onsie but we got a sock and cut it out and put it on like a long sweather, it worked great. I think there is a thread somewhere here on YT that tells you how to make one out of a sock. |

Scarlett had all three done at the same time and did fine. I'm sure your girl will, too. The onsie is a fantastic trick. We had no problems with her trying to get to her stitches, and even the vet was impressed with how well they healed- she's passing on that tip now, too. Plan on keeping yourself busy on Friday, just to help ease your nerves. |
