Few teeth and food? Both Molly and Katie are 8 year old Yorkies. Katie has had several teeth pulled, but Molly has had even more. I switched their food to all canned, but would like to mix it with some hard food. What is the softest hard food to combine with the canned food that would work for Yorkies with many missing teeth? |
You would be surprised how easy it is for them to eat kibble without teeth. If they like it, they will eat it! I remember seeing one of those vet hospital emergency shows on Animal Planet. They had a little Yorkie that attacked a much larger dog. (The larger dog was not loose, it was chained). The Yorkie lost most of his bottom jaw, so you wouldn't think he could eat very easily. When it's wounds were "healed," it went after the kibble, no problem. He just had to turn his head to the side and pick up the kibble from the side of what was left of his mouth. Missing teeth aren't going to stop your pups! |
My little rescue Willow only has 4 teeth left and she eat's a combo of kibble and canned. She does really well with it. At first I was adding a little bit of water to the kibble to soften it some, but she didn't seem to like that. Also at bedtime I give her 10 of the Kibble as her treat and she does so good with it. I feed mine Natural Balance. |
Thanks, I really appreciate the replies. I will give it a try for a while, starting tomorrow. |
