Royal Canin vs Wellness??
 

Trixie is a little over a year now and has been eating Royal Canin dry kibble since I brought her home. She seems to have lost interest in eating it. I contacted Wellness and they sent two sample packages of their Small Breed Super 5 Mix and she seems to like it (at last for now). I have been putting a small amount into her regular kibble and she picks out only the Wellness bits (one smart yorkie. My other yorkie was such a picky eater that I didn't want to start this with Trixie, but I hate the idea that she is eating something she has lost the taste for.

Would you switch her to Wellness and hope she enjoys it for years to come or just stick it out with RC? I realize that Wellness faired much better than RC in the dog food ratings and that is why I chose it specifically. (Blue Buffalo did not send samples - and they just had a recall recently...so not so sure about them). What would you do....keep your pup on RC even though she seems not to enjoy it but is doing well on it as far as poops etc is concerned or see how she does on Wellness. What are my chances she will get tired of Wellness in the months to come?? Wondering what you all think???

Presto was on RC but he would lick his paws constantly so i switched him to BB but i am thinking to switch to wellness as he doesn't seem interested in that. have you tried the wellness puppy kibble? when do you usually switch to adult food?

Trixie switched to adult food around 10 months.

I have mine on Welliness (canned) and Innovia small bites for the kibble. They love Welliness and now they have put out some stews, like beef and chicken and lamb and beef stew and they just gobble it. Hope your baby likes it. Mine are doing great on it.

As you already have said....RC isn't one of the better foods. I also had a very picky eater...tried several different kibbles only to donate them to the shelter. We got our little Lillie a year after Sadie...of course she was on puppy kibble and Sadie would eat the puppies food...not enough nutrients for an adult so I switched to Canidae all stages....then when they changed their formula they didn't seem to like it anymore so I tried Merricks grammies pot pie...they LOVE IT! this is what I have had them on for 4 yrs now. I also us wellness 95% chicken as a topper...has been working well for us..

I think Wellness is a much better company and better ingredients however Wellness had never sat well with Jackson. I mean, he doesn't do like "omg terrible!" on it but his poops are bigger and softer, his eye stains always get worse, etc. I fed the Super5Mix when he was a pup and then CORE for a little bit when he got older, but both times I just wasn't super impressed w/ it. However I think it's a great food, it just doesn't work for my dog. I will buy the Wellness 95% cans from time to time if I see them on sale to mix with his Go! Endurance or Orijen kibble.

I have two very picky eaters. We were on wellness for several months. The dogs would just PICK at the food. I had to hand feed them to be sure they would eat. I got a coupon for a free bag of Royal Canin, both dogs love it and are eating on their OWN! Jett FINALLY gained some weight now. I will probably switch them to a better food again when jett gets a bit older and isn't quite so delicate! Better to eat RC than nothing in my opinion!

Dori and I have to give a shout out to Wellness Super5Mix
She loves the smallish kibble and maintains a svelte 6 lbs. on 1/4 cup twice daily. Result is 2 small "cigars" deposited every day like clockwork. Like Britster, we think you go with what works for you and your pooch.

Thanks everyone....right now Trixie is still eating RC mixed with Wellness and seems to be tolerating it well. I will have to see how she does when more Wellness is added.

Wellness is the better food. I feed Natural balance because it is an all life stage and I don't have to worry about who is eating who's food. They all can eat the same. I do wean my puppies on RC baby dog. It is the best weaning food I have found.

I'd say give the Wellness a shot since she seems to be interested in that more than the Royal Canin at the moment. It does have better ingredients to and several varieties of wet food if you ever needed to use wet food as a topper or something. Good luck!

Thanks everyone....Trixie is now eating Wellness Small Breed...seems she can pick out every piece of the RC kibble out of her bowl and just eat the Wellness. Guess she is telling me something :rolleyes:

My girls used to do that with kibble. They'd pick out the stuff they didn't want and set it on the floor. Then they'd start eating what they did want out of their bowls, :D

That is how my pup ended up on RC. I got her at 6 weeks & she wouldn't eat the purina puppy food the breeder sent with her, so our vet recommended RC mini baby dog food & ZoE loved it. Now she's on regular RC puppy & is still gobbling it up....we'll see how it goes.
