Is peanut butter ok for our little buddy? Hi, I have been seeing contradicting views on giving yorkie peanut butter. There are yorkie parent out there who would think that peanut butter is a goot stuffing u put into KONG for their little baby to dig in (which I intent to do as well....:D) but there are also some info out there on the web saying that we should not give peanut butter to dogs coz it contain salt. I tried to look for peanut butter which does not have salt (not too sure such thing exist) but I can't find it here in Malaysia.:questione Another thing about dog kibble, is this brand Fish4Dogs suitable for yorkie? I know it's better to feed fresh fish instead of processed fish but I don't think I am that good of a chef to prepare homecook meal for my boy. I don't wan to risk any mal-nutrition in his diet and cause him more health problem. For now, I will stick to kibble till I have enough knowledge to give otherwise. When I go him, he was given Nutri Edge by his breeder so I continue givin it to him. (http://www.nutriedge.biz/dog-food/sa...-dog-food.htm) But then after going thru some info in this forum, if I understand it correctly, 28% protein + 8% fat is better for yorkie. So that is why I am thinking of changing kibble for my boy since his pack is like a quarter left. Any pointers would be very much appreciated. |

Most dogs will tolerate peanut butter just fine. All things in moderation though. Very small amounts. Always stuffing a Kong with it would result in way too much being given. As well as some dogs do with it, I personally don't like it for dogs. It's just too high in calories and it's so oily. I'd sooner give some other things.. |

I have given homemade peanut butter with no salt added. I don't think I would give store bought peanut butter to my dog though. |

I give a little to my girls whenever I eat it (about twice a year). There's never been any problems. |

Peanut butter is fine all natural peanut butter is best |

I agree w/Ellie May...a full kong of peanut butter would be waaaaaaaaay too much...I have a client that puts a couple of little treats in the kong, then just covers the hole of the kong w/peanut butter (about 1/4 tsp.)..I have heard some put an all natural, plain, yogurt in the kong and freeze it...Be sure the yogurt has no artificial sugar or flavoring 'though... |

Peanut butter is not only Lipid dense, but also nutritional dense. It contains PUFAs Omega 3s and Omega 6s, manganese and magnesium, copper, phosphorous, potassium, zinc, iron; the vitamins niacin, thiamine, B6, E, ........just to name but a small portion of what it holds. It is a great nutritional source for treating. However, being careful to remember that it is a lipid/protein source, even though it is a PUFA. I treat mine with it in small doses but fairly regularly. Also, I only buy organic Pb, as it is peanuts and a small amount of salt. Sodium, sugars, and additions of extra lipids are something to keep your eye on. |

I can just see people filling a Kong with this stuff not realizing that 1/2 tbls. is about 1/4 of a Yorkie's needed calories. |

Jackson doesn't like peanut butter. lol. He's a weirdo, but like everyone else said, in moderation is fine but I think most PB is pretty bad for you, even humans. I prefer to fill his Kong with frozen yogurt. I just buy the plain non fat yogurt (with no artificial sweetners or anything) and I put it in the medium sized Kong and put it in the freezer then give it to him once it's frozen. But he's also 16lbs so he can eat more in a day. |
