EN gastroenteric canine formula Ok so my 8 week old puppy has gotten sick with diarrhea and we went to the vet, she took him off his food and has put him on this stuff to let his intestines rest. he has eaten 2 servings of this food and during the night he made one small mess, I can not be sure if it is stool or a little vomit. I put down his bowl of food this morning and he has sniffed it a few times but did not eat any of it. He is sleeping at the moment but I have left his food by him in hopes that he didn't want it due to it having been cold from the fridge and will eat after it is room temp. My husband thinks I am worrying too much about him eating as he thinks if the tummy is upset then you don't feel like eating. I try to explain the issue with sugar dropping and such but he thinks the pup will eat when he feels better. His last feed was 9pm last night and at this point he is 2 hours past his am feeding...should I worry? The vet found no illness causing the issue and said they thought stress from new enviroment and such was the culprit |
If I were you I would phone the breeder where you got the pup from and ask them what the pup was eating, and then maybe give him the same food. If the breeder fed the puppy the same food and het then got sick then I don't think it is the food. Could be something else he ate? |
If you don't think he's getting better; don't hesitate to take him back to the Vet. Make sure he is at least drinking water because at his young age; diarrhea and dehydration could take him down very quickly. Is this Purina EN? My Westie is on this for tummy issues right now and it is not helping him at all. I felt like the Iams Low Residue helped him a lot more. I'm about the call the vet back myself. |
puppy came from breeder on eukanuba and was still on this food when he became sick. He is currently on purina EN prescribed by the vet for the diarrhea he is having. |
Yeah; the Purina EN is not working for us. I hope it is working for you. I'm soon going to have to try something else. |
My 5 month old little girl has been on EN (and fortiflora) for 8 days now and it appeared to make matters worse. Talked to the vet today and we're going to try to transition her back to her regular food (candidae, although I know some people don't like this food. Our vet thinks it's a good brand). However, she LOVES the EN, she honestly goes crazy for it. But, I was surprised that she was excited to eat her regular food again this evening. A few weeks ago she started having diarhea one night and we took her to the vet and she had a bacetrial infection. The vet put her on antibiotics and then she was better for a little, but then her bacteria shifted again so we tried this. I'm hoping switching back to normal food works. She's acting totally normal and still plays tons and eats, just don't know what is going on with her little belly. But, it appears from others' post that the EN is not the way to go. |
At the moment I have fingers crossed as his stool has begun to form up some so I am hoping this is going to work for him but if he relapses or there is no further forward progress then I will push for another treatment measure. best wishes for all the poor little ones having stomach issues |
I had one of girls (Molly) on EN for 3 yrs. Then they changed the formula and wow did the runny poops start. Even my Vet doesn't like the new formula now. Maybe it's the food causing the problem. I hope your little guy get's better soon. |
