Diarrhea and chicken baby food??? This morning my Princess Chloe stool was perfect. I gave her a bath, and a little bit of Nutic Cal cause she was so nervous I was concerned about her blood sugar. She was playing, running around and ate a little. Then she did poo and it was diarrhea a sort of yellowish color (sorry for the graphic!). I took her food away from her and gave her a small bottle of baby chicken food. Now I'm wondering if baby food is good for her??? I wanted to give her something bland and that's all I had on hand. Can someone tell me if this was the right thing to do??? Thanks for your advice! |
Before you give her any more, check the ingredients. I couldn't find any locally that didn't have onion in it -- which is toxic to dogs. I would just poach a chicken breast in water, shred it, and mix that with plain white rice cooked in water or broth from that chicken only. I make it kind of soupy to help prevent dehydration. This has worked wonders when Tallulah has had digestive issues. She has had one bacterial infection and she also gets diarrhea when she gets upset. If the diarrhea continues, you should have your vet check it out. |
Diarrhea and chicken baby food??? Thank you booster for your quick reply! After reading your reply I immediately checked the label of the Gerber Chicken & Chicken Gravy baby food for ingredients and it listed ground chicken, water and cornstarch. Thank God no onion!! Princess Chloe awoke this morning full of energy and playful, she went poo and it was back to its normal state, Yeah!!!!:D Thank you for the chicken recipe I will keep it for the future should she have diarrhea again. Thank you again for your so kind help! Naomi - Princess Chloe's Mami:) |
Baby food is very good for ailing dogs or dogs with a compromised immune system or very old dogs. Mix the meat with a little white rice (brown rice is harder to digest for ailing dogs) and a baby food veggie for toddlers such as carrots or green beans. |

I am careful to look at the ingredients to make sure there are no onions or anything else toxic to dogs in the ingredients- usually if you stick with stage 1 foods they have less ingredients. I also cook chicken sometimes if I am not being quite as lazy- that is probably the better alternative if you have the time. |
Thank you Yorkiedaza and Armaniman, I've written down all your suggestions. Thank God Princess Chloe is doing fine now. Thanks again for your quick replies. Naomi, Princess Chloe's Mami |
