Greasy coat?! Help!! 2 Attachment(s) Hello everyone! I need some help from all the Yorkie experts on here. I bathe all my dogs once a week. My 6 year old Yorkie Bridgette gets a very greasy coat, I was told that a diluted dish soap could cut down on the grease and it does but about 3 days after her bath she is looking very oily and greasy again. NONE of my other dogs including my other Yorkie Teddy (Bridgettes son) has this problem. What could cause this? What can I do to prevent it. It does not look pretty and it has me concerned. |
I had one like that years ago, so forgive me I don't remember what my Vet called it. However, he explained it was actually dry skin that made the oil glands work over-time which produced oily hair. He gave me some medicated shampoo that smelled and looked like tar. I used it every 3 days for a couple of weeks, and no more oily coat. |
Skin allergies can sometimes contribute to a greasy coat as well |

I think the dish soap could be doing the opposite of what you hope. I'd try a clarifying shampoo. Contact Peachbongi, I think she found one for dogs that she liked. It had a funny name and I can't remember it but I do remember her telling me it kind of got rid of gunk buildup. If that doesn't work, I'd try 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar to 3/4 cup of water poured over the coat as a rinse. |
