Anyone have greasy beards after Raw Meaty Bones??? Hi all... Reesie is LOVING his Raw Meaty Bones (he is on Primal chicken backs right now) and he only gets 2-3oz a day of it with Primal nuggets as his other 4 oz (he is being fed 6oz of food a day right now-10% of his body weight:)) Hope this sounds right---my all natural pet boutique who is all over Raw feeding helped me. After he is done, he seems to have a greasy beard from the RMB. Anyone else experience this?? I don't want to wash his face down with shampoo everyday and it seems to mostly (not entirely) go away with a good wiping with a warm babywipe, but was just wondering what others did and if this is happening to your pups??? Not smelly or anything, but not as fluffy as it could be. Feeding the nuggets is fool proof--but I want Reesie to have his RMB daily to help with chewing needs/jaw development etc. Thanks- Viv |
It generally doesn't matter what kind of food they eat, it seems to mess the facial hair up. I give mine beef femur bones (about 1 or 2 inches long) but I take the marrow out first. Even then it make their facial hairs greasy looking, so I use a drop of shampoo just to clean it all out. Left in food can make them really stinky. |
Thanks...yes, I also do the same with the marrow bones and take the marrow out and with that, they seem to get less greasy. But the chicken back makes it pretty greasy. Oh well, I will wash it out. He loves it too much not to give it to him. Thankfully none of the chicken actually gets stuck in his beard, he wats up every little drop of it. :) Viv |

I got my femer bones from my doggy boutique. They are Primal recreational bones. Recreational Bones For Pets: Raw Beef Marrow Bones 2" I also take most of the marrow out and my boys LOVE them. But I'm pretty sure you can get them at your super market. :) I'm sure Yorkiedaze will chime in. :) Viv |

Thank you so much Viv! what specifically do I ask for when I call the supermarket? sorry for asking dumb questions...lol I tried feeding my Daizy raw a year or so ago.. but she wasn't having anything to do with it...but lately she's been begging a LOT whenever I cut up meat for dinner...I'm thinking about maybe putting all my girls on it! Would it be bad to start my 10 yr old on a raw diet? |

Thanks so much!! I'll do that! |
I usually just use a baby wipe and that gets most of it. If necessary, you could use a warm washcloth but they get bathed every weekend so it never gets that bad anyway. |
I have a question.... my local pet store sells Primal and I was looking into the bones they have in their freezer. Looking at their website, I see 'recreational bones' and 'raw meaty bones'. If I were to get Jackson some of the recreational bones (Recreational Bones For Pets: Excellent for Teeth & Gum Nourishment) are these considered raw food? (Sorry if I sound stupid). I mean... I think I would make him eat it outside, because he takes his bones all over the house and I never know where they end up, so I assume it's not like a bully stick? Or after he gets the meat off of it, and cleaned off, it would be okay to keep in the house? |
