If Apple needs the probio for a 'therapy' and not as a snack, then I'd go w/ a supplement for sure. The concentration of probio in yogurt isn't much, and yogurt only contains 1 or 2 species at the most. Whereas, if you get one formulated for dogs - a good supp will include the species specific to a dog's GI.
Keep in mind...the stomach of a dog is extremely acidic...and there is a lot of thought out there that many probios die after hitting the stomach (never making it to the small intestine, where they're needed). The strains in a supplement made for dogs are more likely to be able to be more effectively used by the dog. Yogurt for therapeutic purposes is more of a human thing.
I'm not convinced that probiotics would make a major differences for most dogs, but if you are going to use it, it would be best to use a trusted supplement. |
