Hair Loss We just adopted Lola 1 1/2 months ago she is 5 and was rescued from a puppy mill. they did a vet check and spaid her but now it appears she has thining hair on top of her head. Is this normal??? Do they have thinner hair on top? I barely put bows in her hair any longer so it wont get less. |
So the hair loss is only on the top of head? Is the skin discolored at all? Did the hair loss happen soon after that spay (wondering about hormonal)? If her hair was thin when you already got her, then I wonder about malnutrition bc of where she came from. If there is discoloration, there are a number of things it could be (ringworm could be a concern if there is discoloration). Welcome to YT, and bless you for saving a puppy mill dog!!! |
WELCOME to yt!!!! How awesome that you adopted a rescue!!! Wish I could offer advice...but I really don't know anything about this subject....I'm sure others might be some help!! Good luck! And Congrats! |
Thank you so much for getting back to me I truly appreciate it! Her head looks fine until we give her a bath it looks like it is quite thin and we can see her scalp. It isn't red or dry or anything just thinning?????? |
Have heard of 2 supplements that are supposed to be good for coats. One is called "Vibrant Pets Showdog" and the other is "Biocoat by Nickers International. |
Fish oil is also very good for the coat. But I would have her checked out by your vet to make sure she's not having a hormone or thyroid issue.:) |
It could be her nerves from the transition. I started leaving Cerise in the bathroom when I go to work because she was peeing on the new carpet. She had never been put in a closed room before and she lost some hair at the top about two weeks into it and was a nervous wreck. She was very upset with me! But now she is use to it and the top is growing back and looks so much better and less scalp showing. |
