When to neauter Keno I have a soon to be 5 month old male yorkshire terrier puppy, his current weight is 7 lbs and I want to have him neauter at six months. Is this the correct time? How will this effect his weight. He already weights the same as his mother and his father was 6 lbs. I think he will be 10 lbls or better, but this is my first yorkshire terrier and the first male dog I have had in a very long time. |
Check his teeth and see if he has lost any. A good time to get them neutered is when most of their baby teeth have fallen out and a few remain that can be removed during the neuter. If you end up having retained baby teeth later, you'll have to put your Keno under anesthesia again and that's always a risk. I plan to get my Reesie neutered at 6 months as well and hope most of his teeth will have fallen out by then and the remaining retained can be removed during his neuter. Smiles- Vivian |
My vet said my Yorkie should be 6 months and 5 lbs before neutering....he is exactly that today and I dropped him off this morning to get it done. They said they will remove any teeth that need to be removed. He is also being microchipped. |
