YOrkie Horrible FOUL Bad Breath the WORST!!! Please help :confused:I have a newly acquired yorkie over a year old who has the worst breath you could possibly imagine it prevents me from letting her kiss me or getting to close to my face because of the smell. I mean this isn't like your normal run of the mill puppy breath smell it smells like something rotting/foul:thumbdown it's bad! I took her to the vet the first week I got her and had her teeth cleaned and they pulled 2 teeth but still no improvement. What to do??? I tried dental bones, brushing ( which is a nightmare struggle) she is not use to having her teeth cleaned at all and I can barely get the brush in her mouth. But also dental mints, bones, & treats and still no success in kicking the bad breath. Is their a medical reason for her horrific bad breath? Any advice would be greatly appreciated or if anyone has dealt with this and can offer advice I even called the vets office and asked "you really did clean her teeth right?" ha ha they responded of course. BUT.... It's that bad still. PLEASE HELP ! THANKS:D |
I would talk to the vet about the bad breath I suspect she still hasss a bad tooth |

 My thought too, maybe he missed one??? |
I would ask for a dental xray..if all is well, I would look to her diet. |
Could she have food stuck between two teeth? Or maybe a piece of a stuffed toy stuck in between teeth and it's decaying? Good luck!! |

Thanks everyone for your contribution to my question I am almost wondering if it's medical maybe??? I called the vet and all they said was bring her back and they'll take a look. I just wanted some insight on some possibilities thanks so much. |

I'd make sure they did xrays when they did the dental. Unless they did, they can not be sure she doesn't have an infection in one of the teeth, and that can be the cause of the odor. |
My Yorkie has the same problem. His breath smells like rotting flesh. When he yawns I always think he made a poo in the house lol My vet told me there was nothing to do. |
Did they do dental xrays? If it was this bad again by the next day, I'd rule out medical causes. Did your Yorkie have preop bloodwork? |
try yogurt I also have a yorkie who used to have bad breath. He has had regular dentals each year and i work at the Veterinary CLinic and he has regular check ups so i know its not his teeth. But someone recommended adding a tsp of plain yogurt with live active cultures in it. And it helps their digestion, and helps their breath a ton!!!! It has helped mine alot. I hope this works for you. |

ahhh help! Hey everyone! So my little guy is just a little over 6 months and weighs 2lbs 9oz now and I am in need of some dental help. I've been feeding him the same food since I got him which is blue buffalo and all of the sudden his breath has this foul odor, i mean its bad! I just bought about three different things from the local pet store and I'm going to try them out, one was dental wipes, the other were some dental bones (greenies and another kind) and lastly a fresh breath rinse you add to their water. I try to brush his teeth but he just eats the toothpaste and chews the brush, so its pretty much impossible. Please helpppp, if anyone has any ideas, please let me know, oh btw I'm new to the forum so I'm still trying to maneuver my way around the site haha. thanks and hope to hear from you guys soon! :) |
:welcome4:to YT. I would take him to the vet so they can check for any retained baby teeth as this could cause a stinky problem. |

But Yorkie puppies often have retained baby teeth that must be removed (often during a neuter). Jackson had double rows of teeth at that age and had to get four baby teeth removed while he was under for his neuter. His breath was RANK! Once he got home, it was perfect. :) |
