Stomach upset My 6 yr old silky yorkie is having issues with vomiting. Not all the time but now and the but usually follows the same pattern. I feed her Natures Balance Sweet potato and fish ¼ cup 6:30am and ¼ cup 7:30pm. She will start pacing around 1-2am (uncomfortable) then vomit, usually whole, undigested food. If we’re lucky, she will vomit once and that’s it, otherwise it goes on and on. There is no prior behavior to signal what day/when she will vomit – but it is usually once a week. If she vomit’s once, then she is ready to eat within minutes. The vet turned us on to the dogfood and we keep her out of people food with the exception of cooked white rice when she is having vomiting episodes. My thought is maybe she is eating to fast but would that explain the undigested food several hours later? Is there anyone who is having this same problem? I wonder if a little (teaspoon) of yogurt with it's natural cultures would help. Any suggestions would be greatfully accepted. |
Is this vomiting (with heaving) or spitting it up? Undigested food after that amount of time could mean there is some sort of blockage slowing things down. Has your vet looked in to what may be going on with her esophagus and/or stomach? I would wonder about things liek megaesophagus. Sometimes metoclopramide is used in cases like this to get things moving along, but of course that is only under a vet's supervision. I'd go ahead and get a second opinion if the current vet isn't looking into it. |
Stomach upset When vomiting, I assume she gets some advances gagging/warning, as she will usually try to hide. Then she heaves. Sometimes her gag reflex will kick in and the vomiting will continue for a period of time. If I can get her comfortable and calm, I can usually get the gagging/vomiting to stop. |
