energy levels? Hi everyone! I am a newish mom to a 9 month morkie (yorkie/maltese mix) and this is my first dog...i had a cat previously. my concern is about my dog's energy level. my little girl, poko, is 9 months old, 4.5 pounds, and verrrrry cute. but, she is very low-energy, pretty lazy and lethargic. she will sleep all night on my bed, get up to go potty, and jump right on the couch to go back to sleep. she was dewormed just 2 weeks ago, eats wellness brand puppy food, has access to plenty of fresh water, owns many toys. she loves to play fetch, but loses interest really quickly in the game....she just wants to lay back down! i live in cleveland, ohio, so the weather here this winter has been absolutely treacherous! i would love to walk her (i am a fit 27 year old), but have not yet been able to take her out for one because (even tho she wears sweaters) she is really unable to take the cold temperatures. as you can imagine, i'm pretty worried about her energy. is it normal for yorkies to sleep A LOT?! i would think a 9 month old puppy would be excited and active? i sometimes think she seems more like she is 15! could it be boredom during the winter? on a separate issue, i'm also having a really hard time potty training her. she was trained on potty pads previously to coming home with me, and she doesn't seem to want to break that habit. thank you soooo much! |
Welcome to Yorkie Talk. :) When you say Poko was dewormed 2 weeks ago, do you mean she was being treated because she had worms? Was she active before the deworming or has this been an ongoing thing? Have you discussed this with your vet? Some puppies and dogs will sleep a lot. However, if Poki is tiring out easily when she does play, that may be cause for concern. |
Any updates on Poko? |
