does anyone think predisone will help? ok, after one month of oliver being on royal canin so urinary canned dog food, he is still the same. he pees and then tries to pee again and nothing or maybe a drop comes out. so the vet said the food did not help him. now the vet put him on predisone for a small amount of time. he already had a urine culture / sensitivity with mic test, and then they took the urine from him and he had a sonogram and nothing is showing up. he has been on zenequin and clavamox too the vet now wants to do an xray of his bladder to the tip of his penis. even though he said it most likely will not show anything wrong. what am i going to do now? i put him on the honest kitchen embark food. does anyone have any ideas of what this could be? |
Were stones ruled out? Pred could help reduce inflammation, but it would probably be covering up the problem. |
he said the sono showed no stones, but he also said the sono cannot see the lower part, so now thats why he said to do an xray. he did have a couple of crystals in the urine. the vet said it was no big deal |
Yes, xray... I'd also do as the vet suggests and use the steroid. If it isn't getting better and the xray shows nothing, it may be time for an internist if your vet is out of ideas. |
my vet said he has never had anything like this in his years of practice, plus the other vet there said the same thing. oh, they were struvite crystals, the couple of them |
Your vet told you that some struvite crystals were no big deal, Hmmm. I would find a new vet. Any crystals of any kind can cause an irritation especially in a tiny dog penis. And both vets have never seen anything like this ??? Yep I would deff be looking for a new vet. |
I found some literature about struvite crystals. You might want to take a look. It also says it can take 14 weeks for tre4atment to take effect. Diet for Dogs With Struvite Crystals | eHow.com |
