Hard Stools Our 5 month old yorkie has had really hard stools . Is canned pumpkin good for this? Or is that for loose stools? I have not noticed her straining or anything, just that her stools are very hard. |
She's probably not drinking enough water. If she's on dry dog food, I'd add a teaspoon of olive oil or cold pressed safflower oil. |
For now, she is eating canned , organic wellness, with a little white chicken meat mixed in. I also added a little bit of kibble into the mix so she can gradually start eating kibble as her main diet. Should i add water too? there is always three bowls of fresh water for them to enjoy. But if she is not getting enough to drink , I will try anything that is safely reccomended. |
Canned pumpkin would definitely help, as well as bran. Adding fiber through these helps to retain moisture within the stool, as well as adding bulk to the stool. Apples, brown rice, and fresh or frozen vegees are also a good source of fiber. As Yorkiedaze stated, Oil also helps to soften the stool, making it easier to pass. |
Hard stool is not a bad thing.... unless she's having trouble going. But a stool should be firm, easy to pick up. |
Green Beans work for Taycie and she loves them! |
