Changing It Up I love coming to YT to just vent, let my thoughts out and have anyone who's willing to read or listen well read of listen lol. After continuing to read countless threads about food on here and reading information from websites and such, I have decided to go back to Acana. I love all the positive remarks about the food and the company. It's also nice that they haven't had any recalls whatsoever. I had Sasha on a bag of Acana probably a year ago but the only reason I didn't keep her on it was because the store I bought it from doesn't keep it regularly stocked so sometimes I'd get it and sometimes I wouldn't. I have found an amazing holistic store that is about 15-20 minutes or so from my house that has the food and LOTS of it. They also sell Primal which is where I pick that up as well. I've had her on Blue Buffalo Wilderness for a little over a year now and she has done very well on it and I have no complaints with their food or their company. Sasha loves all their different flavors of biscuits and I buy them frequently. With the price I pay for Wilderness, I was actually better off switching to Acana because it was surprisingly cheaper and also had 1lb. more in the bag. Yesterday I picked up 2 bags of Primal nuggets and a bag of Acana plus a Himalayan chew and it came out to be about $62, but the raw lasts me about 3 months and I'll probably have to buy at least 1 bag of food before the raw runs out. Of course price doesn't matter to me as I'd do anything for her, I just feel really confident and good about myself that I'm feeding her an excellent diet that she does extremely well on and thrives on. This is also the first time that I'm using a Himalayan chew. I was hesitant because I've had issues with Sasha in the past becoming aggressive and defensive when I used to give her bully sticks. She used to turn into a bully  so I stopped giving them to her. After being at the vet on Tuesday and hearing him say that her teeth are in excellent condition for a terrier, I want to keep up with it and I've heard wonderful things from other members on here about these chews so I decided to go for it. I like how they're hard, don't break easily and are highly digestible. She's actually laying right next to me chewing on it as I'm typing this and she has let me take it away from her once already. She did let out a little growl, pretty sure to voice her opinion but I took it away and she was fine. All in all, I'm just so happy and excited that she's doing so well on her diet and actually thriving on it. I know lots of members have issues finding something that their dogs will eating willingly all the time. Believe me, this wasn't an easy task. I went through probably almost 10 different foods before I learned tough love and also found something that she really enjoys. Well that is my rant for today. Feel free to comment with a story of yours if you'd like. I just needed to rave about this food! |
Ha, I totally know how you feel. I swear, we think more about our dogs food than our own sometimes  But my idea is that this is a life I am responsible for... to me, it's like with kids. If you want to ruin your own life, that's on you, but be sure to make certain your children are eating properly, exercising properly, etc. If that makes any sense. I always am looking up new foods and what he may like, or what he may do good on, etc. I've been very happy thus far with Orijen and Acana and it's been almost a year (or maybe it's been a year?) since I started feeding it. I've bought a few different kibbles in between (Wellness Core and Go! Endurance come to mind) but for the most part, he's been fed Acana and Orijen. For one thing, I like seeing him enjoy his food. Orijen is by far his favorite kibble. And now he's been eating Stella & Chewy's in the mornings and I've already noticed less poop! Hooray! It's just nice to see a dog thriving on what they are eating. Oh and I've never seen him eat something fast (the S&C's). Btw, those Himlayan Chews that don't break easily... be careful and don't drop them on a hard floor, LOL! I threw one to Jackson and it landed on the tile floor and it cracked right down the middle, haha! |

I'm always reading your responses to threads about food and a lot of what you always say was some of the influence I had to switch Sasha back to Acana. Heck I may even use Orijen in mix just because! I totally agree with you when you say we think about our dog's food more than our own. That's definitely me! :D I will remember that about the Himalayan Chews to! Thanks for the heads up! |
