Hyperventilation??? 1 Attachment(s) We had a storm go thru last night, beginning right after dinner. Tia has always been afraid of thunder and fire crackers. She will run to me and try to climb to my head. She has also become very frightened of brooms, but that is another story. Okay, last night she became so panicked that I wish I had something to give her to calm her down. She was running from my lap to dh's lap. She couldn't sit still, nor did she want to. She was breathing so fast that I thought she would hyperventilate. I tried to give her things to take her mind off the thunder, but she could not concentrate on anything else. Finally, I wrapped her in a blanket and held her, not letting her run frightened all over the room. Did I do the right thing? How do I change this so she does not harm herself? What do I do?????? (She just turned one year Sunday.) |
Mine do not seem to be bothered by thunder storms. However, there was a YT member who posted that hers were and that she use to put their shirts on them, and that would calm them down a little. I cannot remember who it was who uses this method. Hopefully they will see this and post. |
I'm not sure that would work for her because she doesn't mind clothes. I didn't think the storm was all that bad either. I've got to find some kind of resolution before a really big one comes thru! She will never make it during a hurricane! |

Baby Yorkie, you may want to check out the Thundershirt. Some people have had success with them. Thundershirt | The Best Dog Anxiety Treatment Or you could try something like Rescue Remedy. |
Wow, I've never heard of that. I'm going to do some research on it. Tia is so tired from last night, she doesn't want to get off the couch this morning. If anybody has used it, please let me know your results. |
The thundershirt worked wonders for Kobe, we live in Northwest FL and there are CRAZY thunderstorms here. Its a bit pricey but has a 30 to 45 day return policy depending where you get it from, try it out and if it doesn't work just return it. |
Thanks everybody. Anything is worth a try right now. I thought she would pass out last night for all the panting and shaking/shivering. Nothing either one of us would do would calm her down. |

Cooper seems much better since bringing a second dog to my home. Max doesn't care about thunder and I think Cooper is playing off of that. I never tried the Thunder Shirt but suggest you give it a try. It would have been my next attempt and after researching it I found many reviews of it working wonders. |
