Baby teeth removal. Hi everyone. I am taking my little girl "Brandy" to the vet in the morning. She has to have her two upper baby fangs removed. Is this a normal occurance with yorkies? Is it safe to have her put under anesthesia at 6mo. 3 1/2 lbs? My husband is so worried she won't make it. |
I'm sorry nobody saw this. :( Yes, it is very normal for Yorkies to need baby teeth pulled. It is usually done during spay/neuter. It is safe to put a 3.5 pound pup under anesthesia as long as the correct types are used. It's pretty important to get preop bloodwork done before surgery. How is she doing? |
How's your little girl doing? Was she spayed at the same time? It's always nerve racking having them go through surgery. Both mine have had teeth removed during their spay/neuter around 7ish months. |
my Remy just had spay and baby teeth pulled today.. she is 3 1/2 pounds and did very well. I did follow the advice about having the blood work done.. the vet said it is also good to have a "base line" too :confused: So how is your furbaby? dh? Hope all is well |

Brandy came through just fine. I had the blood work done. She has been acting scared all day. Makes me feel bad. I guess she is in pain and doesn't know why. She is eating soft food I made for her. I hope she will be her same playful self tomorrow. Thanks for the concern everyone. |
Aww, poor little girl. Did they give her pain meds? Our first dog Bandit was completly out of it until the next morning, and then was pretty groggy until the day after that. Nala however was awake and a bit groggy when I picked her up, and by 9 or 10 that night was her normal self. She seemed to be in no pain, but since she was SO active the vet suggested giving her the pain meds anyway to keep her a bit sedated so she didn't tear her stitches lol. She should be a lot better tomorrow, and there's nothing wrong with calling your vet to double check:) |
Yorkieholic I have three Yorkies, Nonie,Paris & Mia and I want to stress how important it is to brush your Yorkie's teeth. My little love of my life Paris who is six years old just had to have all her remaining teeth pulled by a veterinary dental specialist:eek:. It was very traumatic for her but had to be done due to early onset periodontal disease. I had brushed her teeth and had dental cleanings done. There is a product called oravet that the dental specialist reccomended for my other Yorkies to hopefully avoid this unfortunate outcome for them:exclaim: |
Awww. So glad she came through ok. Lucy had to have a few retained baby teeth removed as well. She was back to normal in no time! |
