smelly ears Walt is 7 months and his ears smell really bad! We give him a bath about once a week but after a day or so they start to stink badly! His ears are floppy and don't stand up... I looked in them and there's a lot of wax build up... Is that the smell? Is it okay to clean? He's had ear mites before and I don't think it's that because they don't bother anyone but me! Anyway, any help on this would be appreciated! Thanks! |
I would take him to the vet. He probably has a yeast infection, or some other kind of infection. The vet will clean his ears in the office and give you medication. Floppy ears require extra attention to cleaning because the ear canal is more likely to harbor dirt/wax and have less air circulation. After baths, use a cleaner like VetSolutions that has a drying agent in it. Don't skip the vet visit. An untreated ear infection can lead to other illnesses and hearing loss. |
Usually stinky ears means ear infection. I would take him in to be seen by a vet. |
Excess inner ear hair can hold moisture and cause yeast infections. Take him to the Vet. to get it checked. Make sure you use an ear cleaner after each bath to keep the wax from building up and to keep the inner ear dry. |

Thanks for all the advice. I thought since he wasn't itching them or anything he didn't need to go to the vet. I'll call on Monday first thing! |
