Bad breath My dog has the worst smelling breath. It smells so bad that it is hard to have him breathe near you or lick you. Does anyone know of anything to cure this problem? I have tried the breath strips if people are coming over, but it gets a bit expensive. Anyone have any tips for me? :animal36 |

Does he have any retained teeth. That will make the breath smell bad. If so he needs to have them removed. |

How do I know if they are retained teeth? A couple of teeth just fell out yesterday, but I am not sure which ones should be there and which should not. |

Usually you can see because there are two teeth side by side where there shoulld only be one. Food gets in there and then their breath smells. If you are uncertain I would take him to the vet and let the vet have a look in his mouth. |
He is almost 6 months old. I can see spaces and all of his front and bottom front teeth have fallen out. |
Well then I dont know what to tell you. Something is causing the bad breath though. Maybe its because he is teething but if it keeps up I would go to the vet. Mayve there is something underlining wrong with him. |
Does he have any brown or discoloration around the upper part of his teeth or any colored gums other than light pink? If so maybe he just needs his chompers brushed more often. It could have something to do with what you feed him. Does he eat soft food or kibble? |
He eats science diet small bites. |
hmmm.. But you do brush his teeth correct? If so how often? |

Chachis breath had a smell to it about 6 months old when he was losing the baaby teeth so hopefully that is all that is causing it. They have those doggie breath mints you can get. |
Yeah...it's kind of a copper smell, but it will go away. It won't last forever. Thank goodness! :D |
Hi, my dog had the same problem, peuuuu, so I got a package of Denta-Bone and it really helps. Plus it not only freshens the breath, but also helps to clean their teeth. Give it a try... it's inexpensive and lasts a while.. they love chewing on it... |
I actually posted a question in the health section about teething. My Nikko is growing in his bottom canines but hasn't lost his baby ones. I haven't noticed any foul breath but now I am worried it may start unless those baby teeth fall out. My little guy is 6 months old. |
Sophie just turned 7 months old and they had to pull all four of her baby canines because they did not come out on their own. She was just spaded last week and they pulled the teeth at the same time. Poor little girl! I also noticed that she has VERY bad breath... but then I checked inside her mouth and noticed a bunch more baby teeth that are loose. |
It is funny that something was posted about bad breath. I just told Abbie that I was gonna ask her friends what to do about her breath. It has always been "dog breath" not the best smelling in the world but now it is absolutely horrible. I tried brushing her teeth, but the toothpaste that came with her brush is beef flavored. GROSS! I gag, much less what she is thinking. I have tried to do so many different things, the dentist was/is going to clean them but can't do it till after she has her puppies. What do I do? It is almost like it has gotten this bad from when she was in heat... does that matter? |
