Greenies I know this has been discussed before but I wanted to see how many of you give your dog greenies? Does anybody believe they are bad & won't give them to them? I still don't know! I have a greenie right now but I'm debating on whether or not to give it to him! |
I won't give them to my Logan because he's a gulper. He gulped down one one morning and got a really bad tummy ache that night and then pooped out like the whole toothbrush looking part the next day. So I did some research and found out they are not recommend for gulpers and can get lodged in the intestines. So no more greenies for Logan it's just too scary with all the other things he likes it's just not worth the risk. |
I dont give them to him alot..maybe everyfew weeks,, more like a good teeth cleaning..than a treat. Once a month. HE does LOVE them. |
Ahia is one of those gulpers also. but what i do is cut them and give them a little at a time. one small greenie will last all day or a couple of days. warm it just a tad. 5 sec. in microwave is all i do . it makes it easier to cut. (another thing i learned off of YT.) they don't get them often because they are so expensive. |
i give it to my baby once a week she loves it :D |
I don't give them to Thor because I've heard that they are bad for their digestive system, and I don't want to take any chances. He has had one greenie before, but I don't think he fell in love with it so he's not missing out on anything. Hannah |
Well I voted everyday but that is not true. But it's more then once a week so thats why I clicked everyday. Gus gets a whole teenie greenie once a week but gets greenie bits almost every day. Greenie bits and cheerios are great to use when tring to take pictures of him like I have been doing like crazy since I got my digital cam. |
i try not to give lexi greenies too often, because when i do, she poops green and i know thats enough for awhile |
Greenies are a common discussion topic and everyone has to decide on their own whether they want to give them to their dogs. There have been A LOT of horrible incidents where dogs have eaten them and had them build up in their gut and have caused terrible back up and surgery is an immediate must at this point and some even died bc of it. There are several sites about the dangers of greenies if you just google it. Harley is also a gulper and unable to help himself when given any(whether it be the tiny bits or larger ones) and breaks of chunks and swallows them whole. My other dogs (larger mixed breeds) are slower chewers and chew them into very small teenie tiny pieces and have no trouble. But if you pay attention you will notice that almost all the greenies are passed straight through their digestive system and passed in their poop whole. That to me is enough of a red flag. Why feed your baby something that they can't even digest? (and you're lucky if they pass the bits at all) There has also been speculations concerning the fact that greenies have now been found to be addictive. But like I said before it's everybodys personal decision whether they think they're appropriate for their own dog. |
I would give them to my dogs if they would chew them. For some reason they are not interested in them. |

http://www.petedge.com/shopping/prod...CT&itemID=4021 Bully springs! They are digestible and they keep her busy for an hour at a time and she still doesn't get very far on them. She's the same way with her bully springs as Lucky is with the Greenies! :D |
Here are a few sites containing info about Greenie risks.. The first link I'll tell you before hand is extremely graphic and not for those with weak stomachs. It contains actual photos of a dogs intestines crammed full of greenies while it is going through surgery. http://improvehomelife.com/greenies.html - Beware! VERY graphic http://www.quikonnex.com/channel/item/15576 http://www.all-creatures.org/aip/nl-...1-warning.html |
Wow, now everyone has given me something to think about. Nikko absolutely adores greenies and he will chew away at it until it becomes this small green shapeless blob. I didn't know they were dangerous and I will stop giving them to him so often. He is teething and it was refreshing to see him chewing on something else other than my slippers. :D And you say they are addictive too? I did notice Nikko acting a bit strange. He growled angrily at my fiancee while he was chewing on one. Apparently he thought my fiancee was going after his Greenie. He never acted like that before, and he chews rawhide all the time. |

Eddie loved greenies, but after I found a little turd that was 2/3 green, I cut him off. That can't be good. |
I said I give greenies to Lilly everyday- but she takes almost 1-2 weeks to eat one. She is a nibbler.....so she doesn't gulp them. My last yorkie was a male and he would be protective of his greenie and gulp it before I could even finish handing it to him. I stopped giving them to him. So if your yorkie baby likes to take his/her time and nibble at it, let them enjoy it. That's what they are for! |

From Greenies' website: "Feed the correct size Greenies® for your dog’s weight, as indicated above, one to two times daily as a treat. Greenies® are not intended to be complete and balanced and therefore should not exceed 25% of your dog’s daily diet. A greenish color in the dog’s stool is a normal and harmless result of consuming chlorophyll. As with any treat, always offer water after feeding. If obesity is a concern, reduce food intake. If you have any questions, call 1-866-GREENIES (1-866-473-3643) or email info@greenies.com." http://greenies.com/feedingGuidelines.cfm |

I give my little guy greenies small bites. They are teeny tiny little pieces. He loves them. Plus you can give him a few flakes or more as you see fit. |
