Food Suggestions Hi, we are new to using Yorkie Talk and wanted to get some insight on the best food to use for our Yorkie, Gizmo. We recently switched him to Merrick's Before the Grain - Chicken (dry kibble). Prior to this we had him on Natural Balance Original (dry kibble) and he was pretty consistent with his pooping schedule, but ever since we switched him to the new Merrick brand he has been inconsistent. Has anyone had similar experiences with this food or does anyone have any other suggestions for food. We thought that the Merrick brand was pretty good since it is grain free. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks! |

With any food it is important to switch them over gradually. Did you mix the food in slowly? Increasing the portion of new food gradually until it is all new food? There are instructions on YT for how to do this. If you switch them over all at once it can cause upset tummies and poor poops. Hope this helps! |
Oh welcome to YorkieTalk by the way!!! Here is a link to the food I was talking about. (It is the yellow bag with the "small breed bites" writing on it). NB also makes awesome limited ingredient treats! Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance Pet Foods :1 |
Yes same thing happened to us and izzy had loose stool too...we tired everything just about.... finally we found she can eat natural balance L.I.D grain free, fromm and Orijen dry kibble... and Primal Raw and natures variety raw... I rotate them so she does not get bored..currently we are on primal and Orijen kibble :) this is her favorite |
I have Riley on Orijen Puppy right now..... I got a sample bag of Acana... and I was talking to the guy in a pet store in the city who has a yorkie and said he feels Primal Raw. I asked if I could incorporate that with the Orijen Puppy and he said, Yes. Princessizzy: how much and when do you feed the primal raw?? THX!! Quote:
