another question about allergies
 

Allie is 15 months , we went through a very picky eating phase and I thought I found a miracle when I tried raw. Started off with nature variety back in june, she would only eat the chicken, around September she started turning her nose up a bit and I switched to primal chicken , she loved it and asked for the samples to see if she would eat other flavors, beef,duck,lamb. Yes she liked all of them, they only sell bags of one kind and a little expensive so I bought a bag of each of chicken and beef. We have been giving her chicken in morning and beef for dinner. The only other treat she gets are an ocassional bully stick when I purchase her food every month and a half (which can last for 3-4 weeks.) every other day maybe a dehydrated sweet potatoes chew, and when I bathe her on the weekends an organic Apple blueberry treat or a few banana nut cheerios.
Early November I noticed on one side of her nose she was losing hair , like a little dot, then now its both sides of her little nose (little circles on each side) and around her muzzle. I know she should see the vet but money is tight right now. My dad passed away right before Christmas and we had to go to new orleans, then christmas.... we really cant afford a bunch of tests, and not crazy about steriod shots, but if she needs it by all means I will take her but
I want to try a food elimination diet to see if that what's causing this. I've read how many are allergic to poultry, so should I stick with the beef raw or lamb,or go to a grain free kibble, she likes orijen kibble and how long before we can see some relief if it is her food??
Please don't be hard on me for not taking her to the vet, i wish I had the extra income to really get to the bottom of this, she eats well, plays, active, normal bowels, just itchy.

It does not sound like allergies to me.
Those little circles sound like ring worm to me. If this is the case, not only will it spread like wildfire on you pup, but it will also spread to you and your family members, as it is highly contagious.

I would definitely get her to the vet asap. Call the vet and ask if you can make payments or put it on a credit card, as she really needs to get to the vet before it spreads any further on her....... or on you!:(

What causes ringworm ? And it would cause hair loss around mouth? I'll call vet tomorrow if that the case.

I agree. I don't think this is allergies. Food allergies are not that common anyway. Inhaled/environmental allergies are much more common.

I went and googled ringworm and looked at pics , I think you guys r right, I'm calling the vet tom. On one of the sites it said they could get it from horses, cows,goats, well back in late august we went to my inlaws, they have goats and cows in a pasture next to their property. Very possible, i feel so stupid for not taking her sooner. Poor thing, suffering for my mistake!!!!

Hey, don't be too hard on yourself. Once you found out that it could be a possible serious outbreak and not just an allergy you are handled it right away. That is admirable. You were right if it was an allergy the vet would have just told you to start with an elimination diet (my cat has allergies and we went through the process with her). You were doing what you thought was right for what you thought was wrong. You came on here and asked questions and as soon as you found out it wasn't allergies you made an appointment with your vet. I think you're smart, not stupid. :)

Don't beat yourself up. You did the smart thing and came on here to help her. Now that you think that you know what it is, you can go to the vet with some helpful information, and the medicine might be as simple as an anti-fungal.

We also are not here to beat you up either, as we have all had situations happen which we did not know how to handle, and needed help from friends. That is why YT is here, we are all just trying to do the best for our pups and help out along the way.

Please keep us posted as to how she does at the vet. Keeping my fingers crossed for your little one!:thumbup:
