ant bites its a little before 5am... and i just got woke up by what seemed to be not gasping for air but ....my husband thinks i was imaging it because of the trauma we just went thru with the first puppy. anyways yesterday around 3pm my puppy pawed and mouthed at an ant pile... (fire ants i believe) i instantly scooped him up he only had like 4 ants on him...and i got them all off and didnt notice anybites. there was one stubborn ant that took me a minuite to get off right by his mouth and nose...that has aparntly bit him a few times because this morning he has like 3 bites right where that one was. he isnt acting funny really at all should i take him to the vet... generally i would jump on this notion however i have just shelled out over 1500 in vet bills another another 500 in testing and cremation. so were a little on the down side of wanting to spend if we dont have to... |

This past summer... I was playing tennis with a friend. I tethered Knox, my male 4lb yorkie, inside the court, where he plays with tennis balls. I looked over, and he was whining and rolling around. He had irritated a mound of fire ants on the edge of the fence and was totally covered by the time I got to him. I threw him in a mud puddle and raked them off. Then I raced home and soaked him in the tub for half an hour. The next day he was covered in little scabs, but they didn't seem to bother him. It all cleared up in about a week. He handled it a lot better than I would have. I suspect your baby will be okay. |

I would think that the first 24 hours would be the most important if he were to have a reaction. It probably would happen sooner rather than later and the effects may depend on his size. If you think he's having any difficutly, ie swelling, trouble breathing I'm sure you'd take him to the vet. Other than that, the bites clear up in about 1-2 weeks. I noticed about 6 bites on Max's belly a couple of weeks ago. I know we've had fire ants in the neighborhood because even I was bit recently. Anyhow, the bites looked worse before they got better so don't be alarmed when you see them in a few days (unless they look infected of course) |
