weird hair growing on my yorkie I just noticed a 4"x4" patch of hair growin on my yorkie that's short, very stiff, and dk brown-different from any hair anywhere else on him. It's not on top of a mole or dry skin. I'm stumped what this could be from. Any ideas? I was trying to attach a photo but the file size is too large. |
I've read others say that after an injection the hair started growing differently around the site, could this be it or possible a scratch or injury? Do you have a photo editing program? may be from an injection! He did get an injection a few months ago. I remember he was extra sore after that - which wasn't the norm for him. He also has a chip implant-not sure where it's located though. SHould I take him to the vet? Will it go away eventually? I couldnt get the photo to reduce to 200mb so I could attach it. |

I don't know if it will ever change, but I've read several people say that their dogs did not ever grow back. It's just one of those things that makes our pets unique! Some dogs are more sensitive to injections than others. |
file resize Yes,I tried the resizing but it wouldn't size down small enough for this forum to allow it. Thanks for the info |
Pebbles has a weird patch of hair that is darker and more coarse then all the hair around it, So you are not alone. I just assumed it was from poor breeding. You asked about the placement of a microchip too~they are placed between the shoulder blades on the back. I don't think that I would be too concerned with the patch of hair. Welcome to YT :) |
thanks for the welcome! I'm glad to find a forum specific to our yorkies! I bet this patch is from the injection he got now that you guys brought that up. I remember the last round he received he was extra sore and nipped at me when I touched him-which was an unusual reaction after shots. It's not really in the place where the microchip is - its below the shoulder. I was concerned about the patch appearing suddenly. He's 6 yrs old so I wouldn't expect any changes in his hair after so long. I have seen an increase in the number of "moles" or sunspots on his skin over the last few years even though he's kept indoors except to go potty and walk.He has curly hair instead of straight- I didn't like it at first as I wanted him to have the "classic" long silky hair, but I love him so its not an issue any longer. He's really cute and his hair is unique. :aimeeyork |
Sounds like vasculitis...the way you're describing it. Do you recall which vaccine may have caused it? |
Cutaneous vasculitis would have required treatment. It is pretty wicked. My dil's pup had that and it took a month of prednisone to stop it. |
I dont recall which immunizations were given with the last visit. Should I take him to the vet? The skin surround the weird hair growth looks normal- no dryness or lesions or anything. |
