Fangfest! Help! Bonzo is 7 months old and teething. He's lost one tooth that we know of. At present his new teeth are coming in very well but the old ones aren't coming out. He looks like he's got two sets of teeth! Is this normal and will his old ones fall out on their own? Also, he's barking quite a lot when playing with balls. Normally he doesn't bark and I think he's getting excited, but it's getting to be a problem because it's quite a screechy bark. Have tried using an air spray when he barks but he got used to it. Have also tried a bicycle hooter, but it doesn't bother him! He will only eat his RC biscuits when we make it into a game of throwing the ball and the barking reaches a peak at this time. I've tried all kinds of remedies for the eating problem and can't resove it. Because he's teething I'm reluctant to stop hand feeding him as he may go off his food altogether. Any advice on the above would be very gratefully accepted.:) |
Buster retained his baby canine teeth and I had to have them removed as they will crowd the adult teeth and push the bite out of alignment. I would check with your vet to see if they need to be removed. I am not exactly sure of the age when the teeth should have fallen out naturally before you have to have them removed. There are other people on here who are far more knowledgeable so hopefully they will let you know that. Buster was 9 months old when his were removed. Buster gets excited and barks when I am leaving and when he hears an unknown sound (quite the guard dog). My trainer said to try and get his mind on something else to stop the barking. Work on training with treats. This will get his attentions off barking and onto learning (and the treat reward) So you have a quieter and better trained dog in the end. |
Sadie had all her canines in with new ones coming in and it made it very hard to eat because they were all knocking into each other. we had to have them all pulled at the vets during her spay. it's pretty normal for them to retain at least those awfully long roots on the canine. for barking try a penny can shake it at him or spray with a water bottle in the face area to startle the bark to stop. |
