Food Question - HELP!!! Hello Everyone, I haven't been on here for several months. Hope everyone had a great New Year's! My yorkie has tummy problems, she vomits frequently (frothy white or bile) and has had bloody phelgmy stool. My vet has her on Prescription ID but, it still happens. She scratches constantly and gnaws at her paws. Well, the last time I took her to the vet there was another vet there. She owns yorkie's and she told me that she thought my baby may have food allergies. And, that it may be the chicken. So I finally decided to switch her to duck and potatoe from Natural Balance. However, when I get home I google the food and there were some posts saying that their dogs had died suddenly after eating this food. Yet, here I read that it is one of the best foods available for doggies. Now, I'm torn between giving her the food or not. Can anyone tell me if Natural Balance by Dick Van Patten is a good food? I appreciate all your help. Thanks Anne |
Ugh, I know what you're going through. If you want to determine whether it's food allergies, you need to do a strict elimination diet. This involves starting from scratch and slowly adding in various foods to see which is the culprit (it also means home-preparing foods, which can be a little daunting). If, when you add in chicken, the symptoms return, you can be pretty certain that chicken is the culprit. You would want to talk with your vet or a canine allergist to get the exact way to do this. It may turn out that the food elimination diet shows that your dog is not allergic to any foods. In that case, it is likely that her itching and other issues is environmental. One thing I will add - Vinnie will puke up white, foamy bile in the middle of the night or early morning if he has gone to bed on an empty stomach. Another Yorkie we had years ago did this as well. To solve this issue, I make sure that Vinnie has a "snack" before going to bed. For us, this has always done the trick. If I forget to give him his snack, he will guaranteed be up puking around 3:00 AM. |
We have used it in the past and it seemed to be fine.. Izzy just got tired of it... I finally putt her on prepared Raw and she has been on the ever since... and I have added dry kibble to her diet once a day because i want her to be used to eating kibble due to us traveling in the summer :) Her tummy troubles have stopped and she is very happy :) My father in-law is currently feed small dog natural balance and Sammy does GREAT on it  |
