Eukanuba Puppy Food ?????
 
Does anyone use or have any experience with the brand Eukanuba puppy food? That is what the breeder currently has my puppy on so I was just wondering what you guys knew about it. :confused: Thanks!

That is what my breeder has my pup on, so I am interested in answers to this, as well. It appears to have no fillers and is made with real chicken...

Hmmmmm....maybe not the best food. Has real chicken, but also chicken by-products and corn, which may cause allergies, among other additives:

OK...you piqued my interest, so I did some research. Most of the so-called "good" dog foods have nasty additives and prro quality ingredients (chicken by-product, etc).

I came across Orijen and it is awesome, but very expensive. The next best thing appears to be Chicken Soup for the Puppy Lover's Soul. Much more affordable! It appears that they USED to use a preservative that is NOT recommended, but with pressure have stopped. Here is the information for it:

The absolute best food is the one that works well for your puppy.

Is the breeder going to send you home with some food? If not, i would buy a small bag of the food- this way the puppy is getting the same food they are used to when they first some home. Once they have settled it and been given a clean bill of health by the vet you can consider changing the food if you choose to. There are certainly better quality foods out there then Eukanuba for not much more money.

If this is your only dog- I suggest you look into a high quality puppy food to start off with. Find a pet store or feed store in your area and see if they give samples out- this is the best way to pick out a food, it allows you to see what your dog likes before you buy a whole bag.

Some brands you might want to look for include: Wellness, FROMM, natures variety, Merrick, Blue Buffalo, Orijen, Acana, etc. These are just a few I can think of, there are plenty more.

Good Luck! Finding a food that your dog both likes and does well on can be a struggle.

Both of my babies are on Eukanuba, My girl is on Eukanuba for Yorkshire Terriers she is 2 yrs old and my Boy is on Eukanuba small breed puppy cause he is only 16 weeks...thats what my breeder uses cause the kibble is really samll so its easy for the puppies to eat and they love it...I have tried others like the blue buffalo and Natures Variety but I noticed Bella would eat all the Eukanuba kibble and leave the other. I haven't tried changing Harleys and I'm not going to, changing foods is really hard on there little tummies...Eukanuba is not the best food but its not the worst either so I just stick to what works for them and there stool is very firm and looks good in color and they love it... I also offer boiled chicken and chicken liver as there treats and I save the broth and a few times a week I mix the broth in with the kibble they love it...I say as long as your pup is eating it and there stool looks good they look good and are happy use what works for them :)...Good luck

I would never feed nor recommend Eukanuba. It's what Jackson came to me on and he only ate it for 2 days with me before I switched.

The only foods I'd recommend personally are the ones ArmaniMan listed above... but I'll add one more: Go! Endurance. It's an awesome food, great company, great ingredients, they also make Now! :) I personally feed Orijen Regional Red and Acana Grasslands, and I would feed anything made by that company.

Sophie was on Eukanuba for several months but I switched to Wellness after some research and good advice given here on what to look for in a quality dog food. I sent for a free sample. She has been on Wellness for over a year now and she seems to like it and is a very healthy little girl. Wellness also makes baked all natural dog treats called Mother Hubbard's and she likes those, too. :thumbup:

Both of my dogs are on Eukanuba, Aiko on the puppy food and Tocho on the small breed dog food. While I have not had any problems with it, and my vet says it is a better food than puppy chow, I am considering changing to something different. There is a thread over in the general section that mentions a food with home delivery. They have free samples so I am going to give them a try. My pomeranian is a VERY picky eater and I always have to mix canned food with his dry, I would love to put an end to this habbit my mother started.

Thanks everyone for the help. EmmaPeel thanks for the link. ArmaniMan, yes, the breeder is sending him home with the Eukanuba so I guess I'll continue that and see how it goes. I really like the idea about the free samples, so I will try that also if I need to.

We brought Izzy home 2 1/2 weeks ago and she was/is on eukanuba puppy. After researching here on puppy food and her not eating well and lack of energy decided to try another food (gradually). I first started adding baby chicken food, that helped tons, I then purchased wellness for puppies along with chicken soup for pet lovers canned. I added a small amount of wellness along with the eukanuba and canned and she wouldn't touch it. I then tried both dry foods with the chicken and she wouldn't touch it. I then tried the canned alone and she ate that. So, my question is what should I try next? Based on information I've read on here they can be pretty picky. Do I keep purchasing different bags of food to try along with the eukanuba (that will get pretty expensive). Would appreciate any suggestions recommendations anyone has. Thank you in advance and hope to get some pics on here soon.
