Raw diet Just curious - anyone has yorkie on raw meat diet? |
Lots do. If you do a search on this board, you find more info. :) Most on this partiuclar site do pre-made raw such as Primal, Stella & chewy's, Nature's Variety, etc. |
I do! Both my shepherd and biewer are on the prey model variety. If I had just the biewer I would probably use the pre made and supplement with RMBs for the teeth, but because I already have the meat/bones/organs for the shepherd, I use that for the little dog too. |
Mine are on a Prey Model Raw diet as well although I do occasionally supplement with a premade raw like Nature's Variety. I prefer Primal but it's hard to get around here. |
We do a prey model raw type diet. (type because we also use Honest Kitchen) |
We also feed prey-model raw with occasional pre-made (Primal) and kibble (Orijen/Acana) meals. We love it! |
I feed pre-made raw...right now feeding Primal. The kiddos love it! |
Yes!! We have two on raw and it has worked wonders. I started Vinnie, my oldest yorkie, on raw about 6-7 years ago. I bought the Nature's Variety raw medallions for him. I was skeptical, because he was a really picky eater at the time and had had numerous tummy issues, but the diet change cleared everything up and he has been a healthy little boy ever since! When I adopted Alex this past summer, we immediately started him on a raw, home-prepared diet to help address his severe environmental allergies (we didn't want to use the medallions because they have carrot in them, which I was told could exacerbate his yeast infection). We fed him raw meat (rotating between different kinds), organ meats (chicken livers, beef liver), raw egg, plain full-fat yogurt, pumpkin, and raw meaty bones. For supplements we added bonemeal, acidophillus, and a few other things provided by our vet. This diet, combined with allergy shots, allergy medication, and other "as needed" remedies REALLY helped Alex. He immediately gained weight (which he was in desperate need of) and gained obvious muscle mass. Now that his yeast has cleared up, we have added the raw medallions to his diet (mainly for our convenience) but we still prepare some additional meat on the side because he likes it so much. I am a huge believer in raw. I have seen it really help both my dogs and all the research I've read has made me very anti-traditional dog food. Both my dogs had immediate, positive responses to the raw diet and I just sort of went with it! If you do home prepared raw, make sure your dog is getting all the essential vitamins and minerals, something that can be addressed by ensuring you add bone meal and raw meaty bones to your dog's diet. Nature's Variety, Primal, and Stella & Chewy's all make excellent raw food. My dogs prefer Nature's Variety, but we've used other ones too on occassion. If you travel or camp, all of the brands make freeze dried medallions (for when you don't have access to refrigeration). My guys LOVE Stella & Chewy's freeze dried patties, so we use them whenever we camp or travel. |

Yes, all my babies are on raw diet and they looooove it!!!! I just got nature' variety freeze dried lamb and it got paws up from my babies!!!:D My babies been eating new brand from New Zealand and it is called K9 Natural. So far so good~:) |
My three are on pre made raw (Primal)...I think they are doing fantastic on it...I'm sure it has helped Apple's knees...I didn't switch her to raw, 'till she was 11 months old, and at 12 months old, she was diagnosed w/mild LP (stage 1)...I saw her knee slip out a couple of times, when she was about 13 or 14 months old, and that was the very last time it happened!!! She is now 2 yrs. and 2 months...I give raw the credit for strengthening or building cartilage, or whatever, totally, to raw... |
Snickers is on Pre-make Primal raw and LOVES it. He also use Acana kibble in the PM but I am bout to get another puppy and plan to have them both on 100% raw diets with kibble to snack on. It has worked wonders for us and Snickers gobbles it right up. Yay for raw!! Snick & Viv |
The main component of Sport's diet is Stella & Chewy's Super Beef Dinner and he absolutely loves it. I reconstitute it with a little warm water and he gobbles it up. But, I do also feed him 1/4 can of Merrick every day too, obviously not part of a raw diet! |
