All 6 of my babies are itching. What could it be? About a month or so ago I saw a flea on 3 of 6 of my babies. I noticed itching at that time. I treated them with the flea treatment Frontline plus. I used comfortis on all of them. About 2 weeks later, Jackie was still itching, and I did see a flea on her, so I gave her a capstar.I gave them all 6 a bath once a week as well as I treated the house and yard . Now, it has been about 2 or 3 weeks with out any fleas that I can see. I use a flea comb on them all 2 or 3 times a day. I have not seen any fleas at all. But, all 6 are still itching all of the time. I bathe them with flea shampoo and use a flea comb. I do not know what to do. I do not see any dry skin or mites.I got oatmeal shampoo the other day and gave them a bath with it. I have not changed there food, until today. I had been using Eukanuba but I changed them to Blue, chicken for small breed. I am tryng everything I know, I am going to have to take them to the vet on Monday, if I can not figure this out. I have given them benadryl, it does not help either. If you rub Sadie's back her little leg just kick. Does any one have any ideas that I can try? I feel so sorry for them. Thank you so much. |
Might just be flea allergies. Sometimes when they start itching they are like kids and just cannot stop. I am not thrilled with the idea of using steroids, but if I have a pup that is itching and cannot stop, I will allow a one time dose to snap them out of it. I just did that with a foster pup recently who came to me loaded with fleas...he was itching like crazy even after all the fleas were gone. The vet gave him an injection and he is now fine. I would not keep using flea shampoo. I have never used it on my pups. I really think that is overkill if you are using a flea preventative. Those shampoos can be irritating to the skin. You might want to try a prescription shampoo for now....ask your vet which one. I think chlorhexidine might be the one to use. I believe it helps to moisturize the skin. As for food...everyone has their own choices. I feed my pups Castor & Pollux Ultramix. |

If I read correctly, it has been 2 to 3 weeks since you treated the house & yard ? It's probably time to treat those things again as that's about how long it takes for any missed eggs to hatch and why it is usually recommended to retreat approx 2 weeks after the 1st treatment.;) |

I use K-9 Advantix and so far (knock on wood), I have not seen a flea or tick on either of my boys. When I used Frontline on Max (before I got Mickey), I saw fleas and ticks. |
Last year a few of mine were itching so much, they are on revolution, no fleas. We have gas heat. My vet told me to turn on the humidifier in the winter as the heat tends to dry them out. It really helped mine. I also am inclined to think that swiffer cleaner on tile flooring will make them itch. |
My cat has flea bite allergies, and will still suffer for a couple weeks after an infestation. I'm actually trying to figure out if he has fleas again, been itching like crazy but neither of the dogs even appears to have a tickle and I have yet to find a flea or flea dirt on him. Took him to the vet a week before vacation time and she couldn't find anything but said it's symptoms of fleas so she gave me capstar and I frontline'd him and treated the house and even gave the pups flea baths and frontline them as well. I'm going to be taking him to the vet as soon as I can get through to her, hoping for some relief for him, and your puppies. |
If it is not fleas... Since you live in MD, it has been cold here. Our furnace is on all the time. I would try a humidifier. I know it helps my boys skin to stay from being dried out and itchy. My families too! The vet can do a skin scrapping and tell you if it is mites or something. |
It could be a flea allergy even though they dont have them anymore they are still having a reaction from when they did |
