Not eating !! i am worried !! okay so ritz 8 weeks now...was eating fine till about yesterday and now he's not eating at all..specially today...he ate about 5 pieces of dry food and thats all...should i mix some can food with dry food? i have ceasars for small dogs and wellness beef....i usually soak his dry food in water and when it gets a lil mushy i give it to him...i am worried ...what should i do ??? |
I don't have any expert advice, but if it were me and I was worried he wasn't eating I would take him to the vet. Maybe if that isn't an option try keeping his sugar up with Nutrical? Hypoglycemia in the little ones can make them go downhill fast. Hopefully someone with more knowledge will see this and help out! Is he drinking liquids okay? |
Is he drinking water okay today? Did he perhaps over eat yesterday or get into something he shouldn't have that might cause an upset tummy? You could try a small amount of boiled chicken to see if he will eat something. With one so young I would try to get to a vet if you can not get him to eat or drink. |
Thanks so much Jen for coming to the rescue. I'm sure the OP really will appreciate it! |

I feel when they are that young and tiny you have to get them to eat. If that means canned then I would do it. When I got my Cali she was 9 weeks old and 1 lb. She wouldn't eat and had hypoglycemic episodes. I finally got her to eat canned Cesars. Even though it is a crap food I needed her to eat. As she got older and bigger I switched her to a premium dog food. Wellness should be fine to mix her kibble with. I hope Ritz's starts eating better soon. |
I think it is good that he ate and I don't think canned food will hurt him. I would try tempting him with the boiled chicken like Jen suggested though. It is good that he is drinking fine. You need to watch him carefully though if he isn't eating because the hypoglycemia/low blood sugar is dangerous! You care about him so much and I feel like I've been in it with you since the beginning! You really are a loving parent. <3  I just wanted to make sure you got some advice so I PMed Jen because she is more experienced than me. I hope Ritz is okay! I would definitely take him to the vet if he doesn't get back to normal, or if he takes a turn for the worse tonight rush him to the emergency vet. |
hey patti, yes he did eat alil when i mixed the food...so i will keep mixing it through out the nite hopefully ritz eats...at the moment im desperate..so thank you very much .... Quote:

If he just ate a full meal including the canned food; I would probably not give him any chicken right away. Is he keeping the meal down? |
Maybe I missed it, but what kind of dry food? 5 pieces could be a lot for one that is only 8 weeks old. Their stomachs aren't very big. I was reminded recently that for Acana Pacifica food (size) 10 kibbles for an adult Yorkie is more than enough (for a meal), anything beyond that is just adding fat and calories. Which makes sense when you think about. I also think somedays they eat more, sometimes less. |
yes hes keeping whatever he ate...hes drinking properly thou... Quote:

Some Yorkies are just really picky- if he is eating canned food I wouldn't be too concerned. I also brought home one of mine too young and I let her eat basically only canned food- I left kibble out if she wanted a snack but her meals were canned only. As she got older she started eating more kibble and now eats basically all kibble. :) |
hes eating natural choice small breed puppy food (chicken and brown rice)..i am sorry i dont know the size.yea what your saying makes perfect sense but sorry i was worried cause he's so tiny but now i feel better after he eat the wellness canned beef stew... Quote:

okay now i definitely feel alot better...cause he and its a he (ritz ) lol seemed to love canned food but i wasnt too sure if it was safe for him since hes so young but if thats all you feed ur lil one with...i feel much comfortable giving him canned food then ...thank u for ur advice... Quote:

okay so he was sleeping he wakes up and goes to the washroom...usually he's poo is solid but this time it looks like diarrhea..now i am worried !! is this normal ?? i don't think the canned food sat well in his stomach ....he didn't throw up or anything ..i don't know what to really do ...or maybe i am over reacting ...i would rather be safe .... |

Hang in there <3 Hugs to you and Ritz!!!! |
no hun he never had that food before but as u know i was so desperate that i had to give him that so atleast he would eat but now i think it didnt sit well...im taking him to the vet tomorrow...this is killing me... [QUOTE=Furbaby Friend;3377311]I'm glad to hear he ate, but sorry to hear about the diarrhea :( Had he eaten that food before??? The tummy upset could be to the drastic food switch if he hasn't had it before and it is all he ate. I would consider taking him to the vet if he hasn't gotten better. Hang in there |
The canned food might have upset his stomach if he's never had it. My pups both eat the Wellness canned food on their kibble - at dinner time. In the morning they eat dry. It's ok if they eat canned - as long as it agrees with them. But if he's having diarrhea right now - I might try the chicken and rice that the other poster suggested. It's supposed to be soothing on their stomach. |
okay i am going to try chicken and rice today and plus i am taking him to the vet...hopefully my babys fine... Quote:
