Feeding Primal- question about poop
 
I posted this in another thread but I guess I should have started a new one. Sorry for asking twice.

I was wondering if any of you that feed Primal notice a change in the color of their poop on the different flavors. Just wondering if this is normal. It seems to match the color of the meat (duck was very light and venison was very dark).

Gosh, I never realized it fully, but you're right. I think on duck, their poos seem to be a bit lighter, whereas on some of the other flavors it's a bit darker.

I guess we're a bit poo obsessed around here because our boy had so many GI issues before we switched to raw a few months ago. Maybe we are a little too aware of changes. :) I feel better knowing it's not just my pups. Thanks for the reply.

I'm a poo inspector too :p. When Marcel was a puppy, he had giardia twice - it was so awful...and he had poo issues for months afterward. Giardia is so tough on puppies :(. I was obsessed with consistency during/after that (sorry, don't mean to be gross)...but didn't notice color diff in meat sources...I know exactly what you mean by it though.

That's exactly what happened to us too. Both our pups (littermates) had Giardia and Coxidia when we got them. Our little girl got better with the meds but our boy was never 100% no matter what we did. All his tests came back fine but he had loose stool (sorry to be graphic) for well over a year. We suspect that it may have been a reaction to the puppy vaccines with his weakened immune system. He had a bad bout after his one year booster too so we will titer from now on. Now that he's finally better, since we started on raw, we still keep a close eye on what comes out. Other than an array of colors, they've both been doing great on the Primal. I just wasn't sure if the color changes was anything to worry about. I'm really glad to know yours have multi-colored poo too and also that I'm not the only one on poo inspection. :D

Very interesting, bc Marcel's first giardia test was fine too. Then the vet did another one, and there it was. Giardia is notorious for hiding under scope, which can be so frustrating.

I'm glad your kiddo is doing great now, bc it can be a long haul after giardia...we even had to get a nutritionist for Marcel, which cleared him right up, and then moved to raw - which we've been doing ever since.

My feeling is 'once a poo inspector, always a poo inspector' :D!

I'm a poo inspector as well. You can tell a lot from being a poo inspector. I would rather inspect and try to catch an issue before it gets too bad.
