Our yorkie is being spayed today... worried Our yorkie is being spayed today. I will not put her name because at least one other yorkie has the same name and I don't want to confuse you! She turned nine months old on Christmas. I just got a call from the vet, who said the surgery went very well and that she is sending home Ultram for pain. Do you have any advice for making her as comfy as possible? I am terribly nervous about this. We lost a rabbit once to a neuter, so this is all I can think about. |
We never had any problems after a spay, but like you i was very nerveous wishing the best for both of you |
Lily just had her surgery about a month ago. Just make sure when you get her home not to let her lick the stitches. A baby onsies works well to keep them covered. Also don't be alarmed if she is very out of it for a couple of days. Lily just slept for the first couple of days. Then after that I had trouble keeping her still! Don't let her jump up on anything and crate her if you are not there to watch her.She will recover quicker than you will! Good luck your baby will be fine. |
A baby onesie? What size for a six pound yorkie? Should I go get her an Elizabethan collar? I have had so many dogs spayed over the years, but our yorkie is tiny like our rabbit was. |
I am glad she is out of surgery. The onesies are great for after a spay. You can get them at Walmart or Target. I would try a newborn size. |
The onsies work great! We had both girls spayed this year, at the same time, and I thought I was gonna loose my mind! ;) I was calling a friend at almost midnight asking questions :) I am pleased to see she is being sent home with pain meds. She will probably be sleepy and want to just relax. She will be fine. I thought the vet should have sent me home with something too for my nerves when we had this done :p |

To the OP: I am glad your little one did well today! I use ecollars but onesies will work, too! You definitely don't want her to lick her incision! |
My husband is going to pick her up around 4pm CST. I will post and let you know how she is doing. He is going to swing by Target first to buy her a onesie. I was thinking about how our sweet yorkie is such a darling now, and she was a very challenging little puppy. Now she is finally housebroken and doesn't bite us and ya, p all day she's just a delight. As long as we hold her or play with her every waking moment and sleep with her at night she's fine. |
Mom to Hot Rod sells Kiss-e-collars, like an Elizabethan collar but much better. She ships super fast as well...Lily had one it was great. Also I would agree on the newborn size onsie..I cut a hole in the back for Lily's little tail. almost forgot...glass of wine for your nerves...LOL! |
Kasha was spayed in July and I was a MESS all day&night (my vet is in an animal hospital where they keep the pups overnight) but by the next morning I'd have never known anything was wrong!!! I also vouch for the onesie. I got a newborn size at Target. Worked great! Goodluck with your baby I'm sure she'll be doing great by tomorrow morning!! |
