Help~ Dog Just got spayed~ Nervous~ Hi! I am so nervous! My Maddy just got spayed this morning and is now home. She seems so lifeless. Is this normal? Looking to hear from anyone who has had their baby spayed and what they seemed like! any tips? What should I give to eat or drink? When will my baby seem like she has some life in her? I am so very worried. HELP!!!! Thank you so much! |
She's probably still sleepy from the anesthesia and pain medications. Scarlett spent most of the first two days sleeping, which is a good thing. You should have been given some feeding instructions when you checked out. Offer her a small amount of her normal food at first. If she eats and keeps it down, you can offer her some more later. If she won't eat, you might want to try something to entice her that's easy on her stomach like some boiled chicken and rice. Make sure she is drinking and urinating. I ended up using a syringe to get Scarlett to take some fluids at first, because she had zero interest. If you have any concerns, don't hesitate to call your vet back. |
Just like a hysterectomy in humans, spays are very painful and serious. The anesthesia and pain meds can cause extreme sleepiness. It can take a few days for some of them to come around. The vet tech should have given you feeding instructions when she was released. Half meal tonight. Could do chicken and rice if you wanted. Water anytime. Don't let her gorge on it though. |

Had mine spayed and neutered in Nov (OMG what a nightmare when she come in heat with the male). My male was his normal self the next day my female was pretty pitiful for a couple of days. She moved around like a little ole lady. She looked rough, but by her 3rd day started springing back. Mostly laid around and slept. Took about 7-10 days to really get back to her normal self. |
I had Bella spayed last Tuesday. She went in at 9 and I picked her up a noon. She was a little sleepy for most of the day. She ate a litlte and drank later in the evening. She peed and pooped that night. The next day she was back to normal maybe a little slower. By Thursday she was back to normal. The surgery didn't seem to bother her at all. When I went to pick her up at the vet she was laughing at her. I left the clinic at 9:15 she then had her surgery and she said at 10:30 she was standing up in her cage waiting for me. When I got there she was still standing there wagging her tail. I was so worried about this surgery and was so glad it went so well. I have to go back later this week to get the stitches out. Give your little one lots of TLC and she will be back to normal in no time. They are much stronger than we think |
Just for your info, my girl was very dopey for the whole rest of the afternoon and evening after she was spayed. She did let me take her to go pee that night but was still dopey the next morning. By the afternoon she clearly was enjoying being dotted on. If she doesn't pee or pooh within I think it is 24 hours, consult your vet. |
