Leave-in coat products Lexie has really dry skin, i plan on getting her Biogroom Fluffy puppy and the silk creme conditioner but i was wondering if any of you use anything extra on your babies after they are clean and dry to moisturize, add shine or a finishing touch etc |
Dry skin is usually related to diet, overall health, or bathing too often and using harsh cleansers. There are many leave-in conditioners available for the hair. Biogroom, Coat Handler, Espree, Vellus all have great products. |
I sometimes use a little mink oil from Bio-groom. I spray it in my hands and then just touch up the ends of their coats. I love the smell of it too. Spraying directly on is too much and they look oily. |
She's been checked by 2 different vets and is healthy. I have her on Orijen Puppy she also drinks lots of water and i only bathe her once a week, or a quick tush rinse when she needs it. The shampoo i've been using is Perfect Coat Tearless Puppy shampoo, and no conditioner. I plan to start her on fish oil but it's mostly her tummy that looks dry and cracked and she scratches a lot right after a bath thanks barney i'll try that :) |
Did she have dry skin before winter? Forced air heat can be drying. Hopefully the Biogroom shampoo/conditioner will take care of her dry skin. |
your situation is same as mine. Try Halo Dreamcoat oil , works great. For the leave in conditioner. I use Bio-groom 's one...with baby powder scent.. I love it! |
There are some really good skin products out there.... We used to use an oatmeal conditioning spray on our mini schnauzer that worked well.... oatmeal spray is also soothing if they itch. |
I was going to recommend fish oil as well.... I don't really think a hair product will do the trick, I think it's something that needs to come from inside like the fish oil. Good luck! |
In addition to some good omega-3 fatty acid/fish oil added to the diet, you might want to try Espree's Luxury Remoisturizer. It is really nice. I have even swiped a bit for my own hair when it looked dry from over-coloring. I also like the Pet Silk Liquid Silk serum, a few drops rubbed on my hands and then combed through their hair -- back to silky shine! One more thing to make sure of -- RINSE extra well. Something about a yorkie's hair -- it seems to retain shampoo. I rinse, and rinse, and rinse and then rinse some more. I think this is the problem more often than truly dry skin. |
I would also suggest the fish oil. And I think it has other good properties besides just their skin and coat (but that might be for humans- not sure lol) |
Emu Oil I prefer Emu oil. I buy the pure emu oil from Montana Emu Ranch Co. - Buy 100% Pure Emu Oil and Other All Natural Emu Oil Products On-line! I buy the 100% pure emu oil. I use it as both as a food supplement and a coat conditioner - rub a few drops on your hands and massage into hair after a bath. I use the SAME product as a food supplement - just a few drops a day. Works wonders - I have used it myself and I swear by their Herbal Wound Spray. |
When Baxter was a puppy, he rubbed against the side of the sofa so much he broke all the hair down his spine off so short it stuck up! I was feeding him Science Diet then, since that is what the vet pushes. The vet recommended fish oil, and it helped immediately. I would also recommend you bath your baby bi-weekly in the winter months, or only on an "as needed" basis. I also bathed Baxter every week, and was told this is not good...my 3 get bathed bi-weekly, but sometimes it can go 2 1/2 weeks in the winter. I freshen them up every few days with detangler spray & wipe down paws, bellies and private areas with baby wipes. |

I just recently received some PEK conditioner from Jen and have used it on 5 of my pups. This conditioner is everything that many have said...I am really excited about it! My George's hair tends to dry due to his allergies and it really has it glistening and it feels softer than it has in a long time! |
