Yorkie on period---very tired? My yorkie is on her period. She is 2 years old. She is not spayed. She is currently about 7-10 days into her period. It was bright red 2 days ago. Now the red is less intense. Lately, she has been really tired. She sleeps a lot and anytime that she can it seems. Her #1 and #2 are fine. She plays fine with me and others. Everything seems fine besides her just being extra tired. She seems to be sleeping more than before. For example: She may sleep for 15-20mins every hour. Is this normal? We feed her science diet small breed adult. |
Please consider having your little girl spayed. She will be much healthier and you will not have to worry about certain cancers that could develop. Once she is spayed you will no longer have to worry about her going into heat. I really don't know how to answer your questions regarding her being tired or sleeping longer while in heat as my female is spayed. |
I think it's perfectly normal. Friday is the same way. Heck when mother nature comes calling I get more tired than usual to. |
thank you for the responses. I will be spaying her this coming summer. I'll see how things go for her. Its sad seeing her this tired. |
Her behavior is normal. It is not necessarily her being tired but more of a reaction to her heat cycle. It is not uncommon for them to acted moody and depressed, especially at the beginning of the heat cycle. She is now approaching the time where she will be very receptive to males so make sure over the next two weeks you keep her away from male dogs. Heat cycles do change the personality of the females. This can last of to 60 days, more or less. She may also experience a false pregnancy. Ideally it would be best to have her spay in about 3-4 months, before here next heat cycle, then you won't have to deal with these mood swings. |
I recently had my almost 4 year old yorkie spayed. It was the best decision I ever made. Not only are her chances of getting cancers way down, she won't ever get pyometria, and she won't ever have to have the discomfort of going into heat again. not only that, I don't have to worry about her ever getting pregnant, or if someone ever stole her, they could never abuse her by using her as a puppy making machine. Her appetite is much better, feeding times are so easy not, as they were so stressful before. she was so moody while on her heat cycle, and would not eat, would just lay there and not want to do anything. |
Thanks for all the responses. I cannot wait until this is over so I can take her in!!! Hazel is doing much better besides the licking. |
Glad to hear she is doing better AND you are getting her spayed. :) |
:thumbup::thumbup: on the spaying.....good for you! You little girl will thank you for it. |
