False pregnancy symptoms and UTI symptoms? I think my dog may be having a false pregnancy because she has started to develop breasts. I read that a dog will only develop that if they are pregnant or having a false pregnancy. I know she is not pregnant b/c she is under hawk-like supervision by us. Is this something that I should take her to the vet for? I'm scared it might be cancer or something. I also wanted to ask what UTI symptoms look like. I know it might include straining, pain, and stuff like that but she doesn't seem to be having those problems BUT I'm concerned she might have one b/c she had been licking herself down there ALOT when it swelled up a couple of weeks ago and got bacteria in there. Her little girl part (vulva) is no longer swollen but I don't know if she is still in heat or not. I would appreciate some advice. I've never had a female dog before and they seem to be a little more difficult than boys in that department lol. |
How old is she? Sounds like she is in heat but I would have the vet check her out to be sure. |

Sounds like she is in heat. I am glad you are taking her to the vet. Usually they like to wait 8 weeks or so after a heat cycle to spay them. |
UPDATE: So we took her to the vet on Tuesday and a lot of things were checked.. Cost me $200 :/. (But I'll do anything for my baby to keep her healthy...thank God for pet insurance). We addressed a ton of issues, her possible UTI, possible false pregnancy, motion sickness, and got her more heart meds. The vet did an out of office UA because she wanted more info since Ellie had been experiencing accidents for several weeks and the UA came back negative. She thinks that its behavioral and so I wanted to get some advice from ppl here on yorkietalk as to what behavioral issues might be causing this. Just yesterday I was laying on the bed and she jumped up to be next to me and the first thing she did was squat and start peeing. I also found out she has mild luxating patella which is upsetting to find out and i have been doing some research in that and thinking about incorporating Cosequin into her diet to prevent further progression. She jumps up and down all the time and she jumps from the back of the couches in our house and basically onto anything and off of anything that she is able to. I don't want to restrict her but I don't know how to go about making her quit doing these things since she is a yorkie and its what they do. She had gone through her heat cycle and the vet told me she was physically changed and won't ever quite be the same as when she was a puppy. I also finally scheduled a date for her to get spayed in 4 weeks with blood work and everything so hopefully once we get past this spay I will not stress out so much about her health. Overall, the vet said she looked to be in great health aside from the mild luxating patella. |
